I am stilll getting used to rolling release and just wanted to know a few things. If I install KDE 3.5 now, and then run sudo pacman -Syu once KDE 4 is added to the repos, will it upgrade to KDE 4? When will KDE4 be in the repos? What will happen once it is? (will it replace kde 3.5? Also, I have yaourt installed and I like it but for some reason I can run it and install apps from it as a normal user (this user does not have root priviliges) is this supposed to happen? if not how can I fix it? thank you for your help in advance.

1. pacman should upgrade to kde4
2. I believe the devs are waiting until kde 4 matures a bit more (there is a repo with kde 4 in it though)
3. ^^ see above
4. I dunno
5. yaourt is using sudo, that is why your able to install as a normal user

Try KDE 4 on a live cd before upgrading. It is completely different from 3.5. I tried it and hated it.
I don't think kde4 will be introduced until 4.1

Do a search for kdemod on google and you'll find it.

I already checked that out before posting.

As the above posts show, you need to look harder.

Shoud be an entry in your DM (if you use one) If there isn't, then just make a desktop file in X11/sessions
If you don't use a DM, just start it from .xinitrc

innefectual.
KDM from KDE3 just keeps on starting.
I had to install kdemod4 , then it worked by moving to runlevel 3 and starting KDM from there. KDE4 now runs however, its full of bugs, keeps crashing when I try to change settings on panels, widgets, backgrounds, randomly restarts on starting Gimp and Dolphin. It swallows up much more memory and is slower and less responsive than my current KDE3.5.9. The eye candy is great though. But this is useless if the desktop experience prevents apps from running.
Moving back to KDE3 !!
