Did it run before well?
Did you change anything in your hardware (did you try to test your RAM with memtest?)?
Did you install/update anything?
Are you using nvidia or other drivers?
What X are you using: XFree or Xorg?
Did you run any opengl (game?) app just before it froze?

Hmm. Nothing to start with :-)
I'm out of options right now... (except for testing your RAM with memtest - it won't hurt to do it anyway). If it repeats again maybe some more info will be available in the logs.

Did you put in any USB plugs?

A friend of mine had a Slackware booting Problem with its usb mouse. When he unpluged it, the kernel has booted normaly. X works near to the hardware, try to unplug the cam. Are you using Xorg oder Xfree86?

that usb problem is very common, specially with some asus mb, I have converted a friend of mine to linux and was imposible to install anything (we tried suse and madrake cos he is a complet newby ) at the end, after fighting a lot with the bios settings, we realized that something like pnp fixes that usb problem... but I think that is not the problem here, nwk, are you using agp? are you running udev+hotplug? what was exactly the last thing you did before?

If you decide to run a memory test have it running for long time.
Sometime errors in RAM show up only after RAM is "warm"
I had it on a PC, it was freezing after 1/2 hours working so I made a ramtest but nothing showed up and I tried to reinstall the system but nothing.
So I made the test again running it for long time and after 1 hours and half it started to show errors.
Another question, it seems you are running xfree, did you try to use the system as console only without running x?

Doesn't totally fit into context, but SYN and ACK packets are used by TCP/IP to initiate a connection - since its a server, its something you might want to look into. If it keeps screwing up, unplug the ethernet and see if it keeps doing it.
