That was a very good read
I'm looking forward to see you in DretchStorm by the way, since I always play on that server (finferflu@arch, perhaps I should edit it).

Anyway, the only thing I would fix in the newsletter are the links, I hate copy-pasting, and I'm sure you do too

The links were that way intentionally, but I don't know why. maybe Dusty can tell us why he left the Schwag Report links like that.

Kensai: IMHO some mention of FaunOS, archlinux-based, utilizing Larch scripts, and providing PacTrac gui and booting from USB flash as r/o seems appropo.

In, particular, it enables a rather extensive look-see at archlinux with a simple download and even simpler install via dd command, into a KDE desktop. Minimal details added into /etc/rc.conf, and either a removal of openoffice-base(to reduce the install size in overlay) or, a resize of the partition to enable added packages or changes in /etc are usual initial activities.

Alternate download of DVD .iso permits a resize of the active partition as well.

These Faunos installs are r/o and install utilizing none of the users storage devices(except USB flash) and operates in ram through squashfs and aufs.

I see it as a simple method for newbies to linux to "get acquainted" and in a fuller measure without affecting their present system arrangement.

I see it as "better" than arch install CD, IMHO.

Give it its due..................

Nice, a new newsletter! Keep them coming! :-D

I found some small typos that seems to have slipped through the proofreading:
"orselves" -> "ourselves" (Tremuluos article)
tar cvz $(INPUT) | split [OPTION] - [PREFIX]] - one extra right bracket too much (Tips and Tricks)
"Thisactually" -> "This actually" (The Humor Section)

There is one spelling error in the featured interview, but I'm not sure if that should be corrected, or have [sic] attached to it.

I also think it should have been made clear that Tremuluos is only available for i686 and you need to enable the Community repository (I think it's enabled by default now, but I bet some people have it disabled).

Ok fixed everything but the interview, since I don't like correcting people in interviews, he is from Germany so English might not be his first language, still I always like Interviews to be left untouched.

Oh, and check it out now, I updated the Tremulous article with your note.

In the forum highlights section for the penny arcade game I think it should say "The Penny Arcade game has been made available for Linux, which makes this game special and worth discussing."

I'd like to point out the my demonstration of "the best way to hijack a forum thread" was before I had Forum Mod power. I'm much more responsible now... Really!

Well, take it this way, how will you be able to fix the problem if you don't know how is caused? Now we all know you know how to reproduce the problem, we just need to see how you fix it.

By the way, I've given up on mouse gestures and have started trying to yell single letters at my computer. It hasn't responded to me yet, but I think eventually it'll be intimidated enough to cave in. Right now I am using my incredibly anti-KISS (who on earth needs something with 104 buttons all labeled differently? It's driving me up the wall.) keyboard.

Howdy.

The point to take away here is that development is guided by developers, not users. We are volunteers, so we would much rather volunteer our time doing work we want to do rather than implement someone else's feature request. If you want to influence libalpm/pacman/makepkg development, by far the best way is to follow the mailing list and contribute small fixes for things that bug you.

Last night I was thinking: "Ah, finally, a distribution which respects its developers and openly admits it. This is just what I was looking for.". And for good reason; I'm guessing many people see teams behind various FOSS Operating Systems as people who are striving to build a product with the sole purpose of satisfying "the user base"; when in fact those people -should- be working on scratching their itches and "as a side effect" scratch various users' itches too. Not having users decide "where stuff is going" is "the natural way", as I see it. Users need Devs more than Devs need Users. (This is why Exherbo Linux' philosophy appeals to me very much indeed)

false.
trem is for x86_64 too. the backport client you linked is only for i686, but if you search a bit on google, you can find svn client versions for 64 too.

Yeah, I feel the same way about the interview, it's just that previously in some interviews small typos have had [sic] next to them to point out the editor being aware of them.

Oh, I didn't spend much time searching for it, I just checked what's available in the Arch repositories, so in one way I'm still correct. It'd be nice to see a package (be it in Extra/Community or AUR) for us 64-bit users.

I do apologized for this in the newsletter, but in fact is kind of cool to know you have people that care about you and what is happening on Arch Linux on a true interest sense, not on a criticizing point of view. So, all in all your post was not a bad thing, in fact it showed interest.

We sometimes like to have fun, and that is good team dynamics.

well, in community there's a package for it ( ftp://archlinux.puzzle.ch/community/os/ … pkg.tar.gz i.e.),
about a backport package... well, when i manage to find again the one i'm using, i'll surely put a PKGBUILD for it in AUR
