I just bought a zonet zew1630, and I'm unable to get it to work. I followed the archwiki, but it still won't work. I can't use ndiswrapper, I can't get the driver files.

I guess I should have considered whether I know enough about linux to install new hardware before doing so...

what is dmesg after you modprobe the rt61. please post that.
also, what is the encryption type of the network you are trying to access WEP or WPA?
also post the output of lspci here.
EDIT: i did some research and it seems that your card should work perfectly with linux because the ralink driver is fully integrated with the linux kernel.
try installing wicd. It will simplify your search.

It's nice to be in a peaceful place like this.

The encryption is WEP.

EDIT: i did some research and it seems that your card should work perfectly with linux because the ralink driver is fully integrated with the linux kernel.
try installing wicd. It will simplify your search.
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Wicd
Ya, that's what I thought. I read somewhere before I bought it that the drivers are intergrated into the linux kernel.
I tried using the tool you suggested, but it still doesn't work. It says I am connected, but I don't obtain an ip. Setting a static ip doesn't help either

wlan0: associate with AP 00:12:17:0a:18:eb
wlan0: mismatch in privacy configuration and mixed-cell disabled - abort association
This seems to be the problem.
try doing:
# modprobe -r r61
# modprobe r61
then post:
$ dmesg |tail
to see if the driver loaded as it should.
It's nice to be in a peaceful place like this.

Did you install the driver using pacman or you are using the in-kernel driver?
It's nice to be in a peaceful place like this.
Offline
No, I didn't install the driver with pacman.
Offline
do you have rt2x00-rt61-fw installed?
# pacman -Q rt2x00-rt61-fw
if not do :
# pacman -S rt2x00-rt61-fw
also post:
# lsmod |grep rt

I am running out of ideas of what it could be here, do you have rc.conf configured correctly?
maybe posting /etc/rc.conf could help

It probably isn't configured correctly...
