After I restarted from a pac update i noticed that ath0 changed to wlan0 (I use madwifi) and there was a new network device called wmaster0.
my network connection stopped working, it recognizes the router but fails to connect (iwlist wlan0 scan works, nothing else does). ive tried using static ip instead of dhcp to no luck either.
when i do modlist i see wlan and ath_pci etc, so its recognized. i just need to properly configure it part so that i can actually use it.
edit: uh i forgot to mention something important: i changed rc.conf to reflect the changes to the device names. wlan0 instead of ath0 etc. i use wlan_* in rc.conf to set up my connection).

hahahaha
why it happened to me and I figured the problem out in less than a second?
Try this: blacklist ath5k and load ath_pci
something like this.
/etc/rc.conf
MODULES=(!pcspkr !ath5k ath_pci loop fuse)
Got it?
See ya.

They say that if you play a Win cd backward you hear satanic messages. That's nothing! 'cause if you play it forwards, it installs windows.

thanks
hmm, i was looking at the pacman log and this happened right after i upgraded the kernel from 2.6.25.4-1 to 2.6.25.6-1
why does it want to load two conflicting ath modules?

ath5k is the new athereos stack from madwifi. Acoording to them, is completly free; not like ath_pci, which uses a propietary binary layer. Seems that ath5k and ath_pci are like water and oil. You can't mix'em.
