Thanks Pudge!
Yes, I have a few machines at my disposal, but my biggest concern is power consumption. It would be an interesting study to find what setup would give the most Points/Watt-Hour. I have a quad core processor that is rated at 130W that is sitting on my desk that I haven't even bothered to buy an extra board for because of its power consumption.
Also, does anyone know the performance differential, ignoring SMP, between 64 and 32 bit clients? I would suspect the engine is using a lot of floating point so the arithmetic advantages may be mitigated.

Just thought I'd give the post a bump and introduce myself. I started folding two days ago, and have made a few points since then. I have two machines at home, with one always folding and the other folding only part time. I have two more machines at home that aren't used and plan to set them up as to increase production.
As of now we are ranked 183 and according to kakao stats we will be ranked 179 in 30 days.

Whatintheworldisthat,
Welcome to the fold. We can use all the help we can get. Are you folding under the name Whatintheworldisthat or a different one?

Just wanted to pop in and extend an offer. If anyone is interested in wearing the "Arch Linux f@h Team Member" tags, send me an email with your:
Forum nick
Folding nick
and a link to your eoc stats. (Use the search on the left for your nick)
Note: you must be an active team 45032 (Arch) folding member!
Folding is a worthwhile cause, and it's a real honor and privilege for Arch to have its own team. Excellent work.

Looks like the Arch Linux team has moved to 185th places now......

Looks like we are on track for a record month for the Arch Linux folding team. We may be on track for 1 million 200 thousand points for the month of June. That would definitely be a new monthly record for the Arch team.
Congratulation to everyone who folds for Arch.

I just started back from a couple month hiatus, now have my sister's compy folding also, and getting ready to set up a 3rd and 4th machine when I get my new one in a few days, so hopefully I can make it back into the top 100 (101st right now ). Great to see that we are making progress. Hopefully we can keep moving up

Hey guys, wish I could still contribute to the team, but at this point I am only with my laptop. Hopefully I can be back up and running with a new quad core system sometime this year. At this point I simply don't have room for a big desktop machine! Keep up the good work!

Will the smp client ever come out for x86? Or is that impossible?...

I have just joined the team, will send you an email Misfit when the stats update so I show up on eoc.

Wow, I've just passed 50% on my first WU after about 2.5 hours, this is going faster than I expected!

I thought I'd share my little F@h monitoring script for anyone who wants to use it - note, if you don't have dash installed, or aren't running F@h as root, you'll need to edit this to make it work!
~/bin/f@h
#!/bin/dash
clear
date
echo
cat /opt/fah/unitinfo.txt
echo
echo "Log File Summary"
echo "----------------"
tail /opt/fah/FAHlog.txt
sleep 60

WU's can vary a lot. Some take a few hours some can take days. The points you get for finishing them reflects the ammount of time it takes, although your results may vary.

Hi all,
I have joined the fold. I am waiting to complete my first unit and hopefully get some decent points as it is a 'Protein in POPC' unit.
As always the Arch way rules.

edit: Wow! position 170 from one work unit and 1760 points.

Whoa. Nice WU. How long did it take? You almost passed me, and I've been folding for over a week .

It took around 28 hours on my Athlon X2 6000.
My second unit put me at #134 with 3520 points! These POPC WU's rock.

running 64bit on there?
If yes, go use foldingathome-smp instead

diesel1 is already running the SMP client. According to the Stanford Site there are only 4 POPC work units and all four are GRO-SMP (Gromacs SMP). I did a Web page search and only found the four, all of which are 1760
points. Man, I have folded a Ton of those.
Right now I have two "P5101 CMF in water" work units going. These bad boys are 2165 points each.

I guess the WU's are distributed in a 'you get what you get' fashion. Can you choose (apart from small/large)?

The Linux 64 bit SMP beta client that was due to expire in early August, has been replaced by the 6.02 full release with no expiration date.
I have downloaded it to one of my machines to trial it, OK after 12 hours.
