Savage2: change to windowed -> messed up screen -> restart game -> works fine in windowed mode
ET:QW: change to windowed -> game crashes -> restart -> Game seems to work in a window without borders, but rest of the screen is messed up

From the release notes (http://www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/catal … linux.html):

Before attempting to install the ATI Catalyst™ Linux software suite, the following software must be installed:

    * XOrg 6.8, 6.9, 7.0, 7.1, 7.2 or 7.3
    * Linux Kernel 2.6 and above
    * glibc version 2.2 or 2.3
    * POSIX Shared Memory (/dev/shm) support is required for 3D applications

It doesn't seem to mention 2.6.26 explicitly. In the Catalyst 8.7 thread on the phornix forums (http://www.phoronix.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11555), mileage seems to vary on 2.6.26. A patch from git to supposedly make it play with 2.6.26 is also mentioned.

I dunno about any issues with the 2.6.26 kernel, but catalyst 8.7 is working great with my X1400.  It fixed the desktop corruption that occurred whenever a wine/crossover application was run.

There's a version of 8.7 for both architectures in testing right now. Those should be for the new kernel.

Anyone got it working yet? I tried using the PKGBUILD with the kernel patch excluded. I got a compile error already and the module won't insert on boot due to that. It's reported to be working on Phoronix. sad

Catalyst 8.8 is in the repos now. Is anyone else experiencing hick ups (jerkiness) when compiz is on? I heard if you turn off PAT (in the kernel) that it will go away. How does one do that?

I haven't seen the checkerboard of doom in ages. 8.6 Fixed that IIRC. Updated drivers should do it. My issue now is that my FPS sucks. 4fps in WoW is useless. Doesn't change no matter what I do. No biggie though, I don't play WoW much.

Could you post (or PM me) your xorg.conf?

It could be your configuration, but I'd doubt it. I haven't really done any changes to the default config. I used hwd -xa because I couldn't get the xconfig to work as it should. After that, all I did was the standard ATi thing

sudo aticonfig --initial --dtop=horizontal

I have two monitors, thus the dtop bit. That is all I've done AFAIK. No tweaking, no nothing. I will say it was 8.7 that fixed the Checkerboard of Doom for me, not 8.6. It's really funny that with the Checkerboard, I had a great FPS. Without the Checkerboard I have almost no FPS. Haven't got Compiz installed, too messy when I run it on my pc. Tends to slow everything down tonnes, and doesn't do much for me. The xorg is at the end.

Hey, question, how much do you feel like breaking your Xorg.conf file? Because I don't think you have to re-install all the graphical bits, just default your xorg.conf (hwd -xa), re-initialise with the ATI tool (aticonfig --initial) and then restart. That should stop the checkerboard.

Compiled and installed it yesterday. Nice to hear it's in the repos.

Works nice actually, made me switch from 8.3 finally. Still lacks some stuff, but it's way better than the versions from 8.4 to 8.8.
What I'd REALLY like to see now is decent OpenGL support - would you believe I run World of Warcraft in Direct3D mode rather than OpenGL? LOL

Only the best is good enough.

8.9 is not yet in the repos. it has a fileconflict with xorg-server (libdri) that has to be solved. and there are reports out causing X segfaults. don't exect it very soon in the repos. anyway reports about state on your systems are welcome.
