I've been playing the Doom roguelike for a while now.  It's simple, but captures the feel of Doom pretty well.   Kind of nice with my coffee in the morning...  I would play ADOM, which think is great, but the save games keep going haywire on me and I keep losing my place.

Hello fellow nethackers

I just picked up this game for the first time a few days ago, and boy am I bad at it! But I love playing as the archeologist!

How do you guys set up your default options? I tried editing the nhdat file and changing the boolean values, but then game wouldn't start when I did that... I'd like colors and numpad on, and autopickup off when I start...

As far as options go, if you play on nethack.alt.org there's an online nethackrc editor which should make it easier.

A few of these options (such as menucolor) only work with the appropriate useful patches.  If you must play on your own computer rather than telnetting to alt.org, I HIGHLY recommend installing nethack-patch from AUR.  It has things like menucolor which make readability infinitely easier.

I installed nethack-patch. I also borrowed a lot of your config. What option can I set to not have my character highlighted?
