Bridge to Compensate for Cache?

I bought a fairly cheap gigabit switch recently, and I've read online that because it doesn't have a lot of cache, it doesn't do well when connected to a standard 10/100 networks and drops packets. I'm going to be hosting a LAN party next month, and I already know that part of the network will be gigabit but I'm going to have to pull in a 14 port 10/100 switch for at least a few attendees.
Rather than suffer dropped packets, would it be possible for me to take an Arch box with a gigabit card and a 10/100 card and hook it up as a bridge? Would the Arch box cache packets as necessary? Would I just have to set up a bridge interface, or would I need to do some tricky things with IPTables and routing setup?

I don't have any scientific explanation but I got your idea. I think that would work.

Re: Bridge to Compensate for Cache?

It makes sense to me too, but I'm mostly not sure how I would set it up.
