[SOLVED] lenovo xorg

Hey all, I have been on off user of Arch for some time but this is pretty much stumping me, I have looked over the wiki, install guide and the forums so now I must post.  I Have a Lenovo 3000 n1000 laptop, everything installs great, all the hardware is found, even checked the wiki and checked to make sure mine was on the list and it was.
but when i go to config Xorg using xorgcfg i get the picture and pic my Syncs and refresh and everthing seems gravy. hit the ctl-alt-backspace, then the x sever crashes about some font with a count of 2 instead of one. here is my Xorg config, ill try to get the full error once im able to boot back into my Arch install.

Re: [SOLVED] lenovo xorg

Could you possibly post the error message output about the font?  If we knew which font was crashing X, we could comment out the correct FontPath line in /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Re: [SOLVED] lenovo xorg

It was the /usr/share/fonts/misc fonts,  Im pretty sure I have tried it before with it commented out. but I will go back and do that again just to make sure.

Re: [SOLVED] lenovo xorg

IMHO, it has nothing to do with the font count.  There are lots of posts about that error and generally it's not a show stopper.  If you check the end bit of your /var/log/Xorg.0.log, I would guess you are missing something else that's critical like mouse or keyboard input maybe.

Edit:  I just finished an install on an old clunker I have in the basement and I get the same font error, recount 2 should be 1 or something like that, and I have no trouble starting up an openbox session with pypanel on the old girl.

Re: [SOLVED] lenovo xorg

There's a bunch of AIGLX errors...maybe you need to disable AIGLX and see what happens.  In /etc/X11/xorg.conf, I would add this line to the ServerFlags section:

Option "AIGLX" "false"

My Rigs:
- Mid-2007 iMac 20", Intel 2GHz Core 2 Duo, 2x1GB DDR2-800, 250GB SATA HDD, and...MIGHTY MOUSE!!! tongue, OSX 10.5 Leopard, ATI Radeon 2400XT 128MB
- HP zv6203cl, AMD Athlon 64 3200 S939, 2x512MB DDR400, 80GB 4200rpm HDD, ATI Radeon Xpress 200M 128MB, Arch i686 cool

(WW) intel(0): Bad V_BIOS checksum

you also have a bad bios warning.

you might wanna pass that file through a grep filter for Warnings and errors to see all the errors and warnings you have.

cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep "(WW)"
cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep "(EE)"

Re: [SOLVED] lenovo xorg

Maybe a silly question but are you sure your laptop is using an intel video chipset.  What does lspci tell you?  The reason I ask is that on lenovo's site it shows that your laptop is also shipped with nvidia graphics.  Your Xorg.log doesn't really show any major errors, just warnings, that would prevent a s/u--or maybe my eyes are too old to see.  It does mention something about not finding a matching device.  I'm sure someone with more expertise will clue us all in eventually.

Re: [SOLVED] lenovo xorg

945GM is your chipset most likely, not your graphics card.  Try this in terminal:

lspci | grep vga

and it should give you what your graphics card is.  The "grep" part of this command is basically like a search tool that allows to to locate all the entries with "vga" somewhere in them.

Re: [SOLVED] lenovo xorg

I have no idea if this will help but you could try and install the 915resolution package from community.  An explanation of what this package does is at http://www.geocities.com/stomljen/

Re: [SOLVED] lenovo xorg

i just removed the xf86-video-i810 and the intel set then just installed the intel set now i can run startx and it opens up TWM, but i installed enlightenment e17 with pacman -Syu then -S e17-cvs then -S e17-extra-cvs but when i run the command enlightenment_start it errors out with with did set the display variable? but in TWM if i exit it then run the e start command it brings it up just fine. not sure why this is?
This is what I get when i dont do go from startx

<<<< Enlightenment Error >>>>
Enlightenment cannot initialize its X connection.
Have you set your DISPLAY variable?
E17: begin shutdown procedure!

Thanks for all the help so far too!!!

EDIT: added a line reading 'enlightenment_start' to my ~/.xinitrc
then ran startx and all seems to be working fine.
THANKS A BUNCH everyone!
