how many cpu's?

to make sure, if a uni-kernel would be worth more than an smp maintaining

Re: how many cpu's?

I run a P4 2.4GHz without Hyperthreading. I was considering switching to a dual setup, but I prefer my computer to be quiet (top priority), hence I'll stick with single CPU for some time, still.

I just have a INTEL PENTIUM IV @ 1.8 GHZ. Dual processors wont make your pc much faster if you just run kde or gnome.

Re: how many cpu's?

We are running many single cpu machines and 4 servers with DUAL PIIIs 1.3GHz (web, database, file, test box).

I really like that archlinux has support for smp machines and hopefully will continue the support with future releases.

this is not an official poll to remove smp from the kernels in current - sorry, if i was not clear enough - i just wanted to find out, if there is any dual/multi around and as someone voted, i'm happy and also keeping smp for the mm kernel smile - thx

Where's the option for my 5000-node cluster?

dual / multi

(actually i had another option in the list for grids/clusters/beowulf, but phpbb removed it, as it was the last one)

may i let something compute on your cluster? :-)

Re: how many cpu's?

2 single AMD / 1 single intel  / 1 HT intel

I compile my own kernel with ABS on the HT box (my laptop) for bootsplash so it wouldn't matter to me.

For a small fee. (or enough to buy me the 5000-node cluster I lied about having)

Re: how many cpu's?

I run a p3 1.2 gig on my Server, a P4 2.4 on my kids and a dual AMD 2800+ (Modded XP's) on my machines. I will NEVER go back to a single proc machine. As cheap as dual's are these days, anyone can do it, and I really feel the difference. Sure, I'm not running any faster than a single, but the fact that I can process 2 threads at once, you can really feel the snappyness of the os/app.
