[SOLVED] Strange Wicd/Network Daemon problem

I don't know if this is due to a different version of Wicd that I downloaded after I reinstalled arch or not, but it's a very strange problem. If I have both wicd and network in my daemons line and etho enabled, Wicd can connect to the wired internet at boot. However, if I disconnect the wired internet, I cannot connect to it again. The bar would just keep saying that it's connecting to the wired internet, but it never connects. Now, if I remove the network daemon and disable etho, I cannot even connect to wire at boot. Wicd will just keep trying to connect and nothing happens. I have tried uninstalling Wicd and deleting the /usr/lib/wicd files and then reinstalling Wicd, but the problem is still there.

Re: [SOLVED] Strange Wicd/Network Daemon problem

Why are you using wicd for your ethernet when the network daemon is the only one you need to use a wired connection?  If you want the eth0 to only be configured when a cable is plugged in, try ifplugd:

http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Network#Ifplugd

That way it won't hang on trying to connect on eth0 at boot.

Re: [SOLVED] Strange Wicd/Network Daemon problem

ok, I'll try this, but I still want to know why wicd worked perfectly before and now it won't. I don't think I did anything differently except installed fonts before installing xfce4 but I don't think that will affect wicd. I just don't get it.

Ok, things are good now that I stopped wicd from managing wire.

Edit: Actually, ifplugd makes things more difficult as it doesn't always work. I uninstalled it and the network daemon works automatically as soon as I plugged in my ethernet cable. However, I will not edit this thread as solved because I have no wireless around me right now so until I tried it out on a wireless connection, I will leave this thread as it is.
