ISO install, frugal install, Live DVD no install? Need advice.

Hi as you see from my user name and the way I write the subject.
Only a complete newbie would ask such crazy question.

Not sure if the proper name is ISO install? Frugal install you may have heard of.
Live DVD or CD you have heard of.  arch-live http://arch-live.blogspot.com/
or Faun OS live Arch based? http://www.faunos.com/releases/announce-ver-0.3.2.html
or ... gave up searching.

I know noting about these at all. So if I forgot a more famous one I recommend that one too.
I only try to show that we all know they exist.

I will try one of them for sure but what I really want is a frugal install or a iso install.

I have iso install of Nimblex which is Slax Linux inspired? Isn't Arch also Slackware or Slax inspired?

so maybe it is possible to do a similar install with Arch?

Yes I searched the forum but only found ref to Frugalware and that is something else I guess.

So now I ask how does one do frugal install of Arch Linux?

Here is how my menu.lst looks like. it make use of grldr a grub thing if I get it.

title Nimblex 2008
root (hd0,0)/nimblex
kernel /nimblex/vmlinuz-nx08 from=/mnt/hda1/nimblex/NimbleX-2008.iso ramdisk_size=6666 root=/dev/ram0 rw vga=791 autoexec=telinit~4 changes=/nimblex.data
initrd /nimblex/initrd-nx08.gz

title SliTaz cooking
  kernel (hd0,0)/boot/bzImage rw root=/dev/null vga=normal
  initrd (hd0,0)/boot/rootfs.gz

this part show that it make use of the iso directly.
from=/mnt/hda1/nimblex/NimbleX-2008.iso

could I do this with Arch?

PS
Yes I know that real man and real Linux users do partition.
You can have as many of them as you like, I will not do it. Period!

I'm poor at reading highly tech text.
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Arch_Linux

Does it say that this distro are only for 64bit bus?
I mean I know me have 686 but I have 32 bit?

Are there no Arch for 32 bit? Which live distro
should I dl and text if I have 32 bit?

Re: ISO install, frugal install, Live DVD no install? Need advice.

ArchLinux seems to be for those already in know on what to do.
I downloaded this one. archlinux-2008.06-core-i686.iso

Was core a kind of code word for not being live?
I saw no iso named live? Don't you have a live one?

Most likely I was expected to either install a core on a partition
or to download more from a repository?

Well obviously as a nooby one need more info on what it is that
one should do to get a live CD or DVD.

When this iso asks if one want to install? Does it mean do a partition.
Had it started to do low level formatting if I had accepted isntead of
rebooting?

Welcome to the forums.

There is no official live Arch CD. You already know about FaunOS, and there is one referenced in post #4 that godane created here: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=48742

Most of questions that you are asking have been answered in the wiki or in the forums. Take a little more time to familiarize yourself with searching both. And of course, don't be discouraged by asking questions. The community here is awesome.

Re: ISO install, frugal install, Live DVD no install? Need advice.

Frugal install is a HDD install of Faunos USB Flash generated FaunOS system.

It is archlinux-based with 600 packages pacman capable and operates in the HDD exactly like it does from a USB Flash device...that is why it is called "Frugal", meaning minimal or cheapest or simplest(actually means with no change to compressed format in squashfs).

I feel the easiest way to get into archlinux is to install Faunos with a USB Flash device of 2GB, increase the installed partition size after install with gparted.

Frugal install creates the HDD version which is r/o, just like the USB Flash device is r/o.

Much reading is necessary to compare systems.  In this case, "frugal" is a term used by the originator of FaunOS and is not a term applied to any other OS but FaunOS AFAIK.

Before you become even more confused, have a look at the Arch Linux Beginners' guide and read it thoroughly and completely.
Following it closely will give you a very good shot at achieving a properly configured, working system.
Good luck, and have fun.

Thanks to all of you. I guess Arch are too big and too difficult on my level of getting such.
Your answer will help others in my situation.

I want to encourage you to try. Arch is more simple than it seems; it just doesn't look as "pretty" getting started. The beginner's guide is a an excellent resource (written my Misfit from above) and the community is very helpful. If you decide to stay, a bunch of us will be happy to help. If choose not to, good luck where ever you go.
