eclipse terrribly slow

hi everyone.

i've installed eclipse from the 'extra' repository, and its running ridiculously slow. Half the time it won't even start, and when it does, making a new file is a looong process. My computer is like dual core 2.8 with 2 gigs of ram, so i don't think i'm short of resources, and it worked a lot faster in windows.

i looked around (google and all), but not really with any results...
does anyone know a solution?

its probably using very little memory by default to run the JVM. What is your memory usage like, when you start up eclipse?

Have you tried playing with the -Xms and -Xmx settings for the JVM that actually runs Eclipse?
