I tried a pacman -Syu and it told me that a new version of pacman was available so I updated pacman first. After that, I never see pacman updating the [unstable] repo. I checked pacman.conf and unstable is present in the REPOS array.
I think I had read somewhere that the devs were gonna get rid of the unstable repo and simply keep [core] [extra] and c[ommunity]...but I can't find that thread anymore.
Just wanted to make sure, so that I can also remove the [unstable] from the REPOS array in pacman.conf and abs.conf

The unstable repo is dead. From here you will notice that it is nice and empty: http://ftp.archlinux.org/unstable/os/i686/
The main Arch website search is a bug...

Where are the packages it contained? Did they all just moved to extra like OOo3?

Some were very outdated so were removed. Others went to extra.
