Never seen this before...
I get this problem with alsamixer and finch (Pidgin's ncurses client) whether I'm using aterm or xterm.
Anyone have a clue?

This can be fixed by rebuilding alsa-utils against the new ncurses package. I'll file a bug report.

I run Arch64 and I have the same problem with centerim and finch but alsamixer looks fine.
Thanks

Looking at the bug report it seems you have to rebuild the package but how do you go about doing that with pacman or do I have to build from source? Centerim not alsa.
I built it from source and its fixed now.
Thanks

Use ABS to re-build the package, then you can still manage it with pacman

Thanks I had already built it from the source package from their website but would rather have pacman control the package. I am getting help from one of the
