Re: AMD/ATI Catalyst 7.12 Released

Custom mode lines in xorg.conf will no longer be ignored by the fglrx driver

Well finally, that took them about a year or so to fix this... It was even worse than being ignored, it made the whole computer freeze. Now I can try fglrx again instead of the r300 (they provide a bad video quality here)

They _still_ haven't fix the XVideo? sad

Still no fglrx for me, it seem. Anyway, thanks for the news, JaDa.

Are we going to the 8-01 release packaged for Arch Linux anytime soon?

Re: AMD/ATI Catalyst 7.12 Released

I've been busy with work and burnt out (exhausted) when I get home the past week, so I've been sadly lagging on my packaging.  I hope to get all my out-of-date packages, including catalyst, handled this weekend.

Re: AMD/ATI Catalyst 7.12 Released

I hope the ATI drivers evolve to the quality of Intel/nVIDIA asap. It would make buying a newer Thinkpad so much easier, since so many of them have an ATI chipset.
Anyway, progress seems to have been made, which is a good thing. smile
Hoping for the best..

Re: AMD/ATI Catalyst 7.12 Released

@ JaDa

Does the driver work fine on Radeon 9550? I always get a black screen when exiting X... I can't believe they still didn't fix the ancient blackscreen bug. It just pisses me off because it makes my system totally useless... I'm currently running the open source "ati" driver. Although I don't get good performance from it, it's stable.. I'm never buying ATI's hardware again

Re: AMD/ATI Catalyst 7.12 Released

@ Phoronix (link see previous posts) it looks like this driver will be developed rather fastly in the next releases (starting to show with this one), in shear contrast with the previous 3 or 4 releases.

Hooray foor AMD/Ati!

And about this new feature, 'DKMS' (Dynamic Kernel Module S...) - Will this mean that if you up-/downgrade your kernel, you won't have to rebuild the driver module anymore?

Zl.

Only on distros that support DKMS.  Since we don't do anything special around dkms, this won't be the case.

Re: AMD/ATI Catalyst 7.12 Released

I like DKMS, it seems like a terrific idea. I used it on PCLOS a couple of years back and it worked perfectly.
I wonder if it is largely reliable or if it has any limiting factors..time to google it.

So this is something that is not default in the kernel? Or is it kernel-independent (though nothing really is kernel-independent I presume).

What would be necessary to get DKMS working in Archlinux?

It's independent of the kernel itself, afaik - there're packages in AUR for dkms-enabled modules already.  I don't know much more about it than that though

Re: AMD/ATI Catalyst 7.12 Released

You know, you CAN make a new thread for the new release (I would suggest in the Linux Discussion forum) if you want to discuss it, instead of continually bumping this very old topic about a very old version of the drivers.

Re: AMD/ATI Catalyst 7.12 Released

Nah, it's more fun if you just have a 100 page topic and people get confused while reading through for the current driver release.
Hey, we could make the ATI thread longer than the Hack the Phrak thread!
