Arch Linux Jewellery

Hello Archers,

I was checking the pekwm site for a changelog on the latest release (0.1.7) and stumbled across this web page:

http://darkshed.net/jewelry/

I was inspired! I contacted the maintainer to see if they'd be interested in collaborating on creating some jewwellery from the Arch Linux logo, and it seems this is indeed a possibility. I can't even come up with words to describe how awesome I think our logo would look in jewellery and I'm quite excited by the prospect. But I'm not sure if that extends to other archers so I wanted to be sure. So, as with the case badges, here's another survey for you all:

1) Would you be interested in purchasing Arch-shaped jewellery?

2) Is $40 a reasonable price?

3) What sort of jewellery would you be interested in? My ideas include: Ring, Pendant, Earrings

Thanks for all the wonderful support you guys have shown to Arch through purchasing Schwag. I'm really proud to be managing the merchandise shops for such a great community!

This is indeed an awesome idea big_smile
I think it's all reasonable, and I'd go for a pendant.

Nah, seriously, is a good idea. I guess a ring would be my choice, and $40? Well, we will see about that.

Re: Arch Linux Jewellery

It says 25 euro on that page. Is that business based in Europe?

-edit-

Germany, isn't it?

Re: Arch Linux Jewellery

What about some grillz? Bling bling teeth xD

A ring would be cool though. 40$ is to much for a ring IMO. It depends on the piece of jewelry. It would be cool that the profits reverted to Arch's development, or maybe charity.

Most of the money will go to the jeweller, but there will be a small donation going to 'Arch development'. Most of the profit I've made off our current ventures (zazzle schwag and case badges) has basically been reinvested in the new stock of case badges. My intent is to eventually turn the profit over to the Arch donations page. Anything else we sell (jewellery, usb keys, notepads are all in the back of my mind) will also turn into donations.

Re: Arch Linux Jewellery

I'm not sure about jewellery, but I have been thinking about getting some Arch logo shaped fan grills made. I've ordered a Mountain Mods case which comes without any fan grills and thought Arch ones would look nice.

Re: Arch Linux Jewellery

Hey guys,

I just wanted to give an update on this; the jeweller sent me some sketches that look really neat. We're thinking about rings and a pendant right now. He'll be working on a prototype next.

Re: Arch Linux Jewellery

Is it possible to share the sketches?

A pendant would be nice i think.

As long as they use quality material to make the jewlery, 40US isnt a bad price.

Re: Arch Linux Jewellery

Hey guys,

Sorry for the lack of sketches, but here's something better:

http://schwag.neotuli.net/jewellery/

These are photos of both the pendant and ring as carved in jeweller's wax. He says use your imagination to see it in silver.

I love the ring design, I've never seen anything like it, it looks elegant and simple and that is SO Arch!

Re: Arch Linux Jewellery

I'm more likely to wear the pendant but the ring does look cool, kinda dangerous too!

Re: Arch Linux Jewellery

The ring does look cool and i have never seen anything like it either. The pendant looks really nice i think.

Personally i am not much of a ring wearer. Except for my engagement ring i dont have anything that populates my fingers. But if the price aint bad i will buy the pendant for sure.

Kensai, Misfit is volunteering to proofread the newsletter this month, since, as we discussed, I don't have time. Make sure he doesn't go off killing letters needlessly. Its inhumane. Letters have a right to life just like you and me. These Texans... ;-)
