But mascots are not serious! See, for example, what I get with a google search for "mascot". And I wouldn't want to be stuck with one, like Konky for KDE or that Java mascot (Duke?). Let's just have fun with this.

O.K. How about Skeletor arching his back? I mean, after the last pic I saw of him, that fits right in.
Guarantee does not cover shark bite, bear attack, or children under 5.

The first mascot was Judd, and now that he stepped down we want Skeletor. Sigh, people are fickle.
By the way, did no one think of penguin?

How about a skeletor penguin?

A mascot would be nice. But please no "thing" that looks like a toy or image for 5 years old children ;)

Oh God... No. Please no. I want to forget that that awful series ever existed. I'm not even going to dignify it by calling it Trek, it breaks the continuity so badly.

I like skeletor!

mascots are useful, larry the cow convinced me to try gentoo, he gives the distribution a more personalised feeling. although there might not be a very strong relationship between the mascot and the distribution's goals, it just works. (maybe my reasoning went 'if a cow thinks it's good then it obviously _must_ be')
i would like to see a mascot, if we can come up with one that is original, refreshing and one that doesn't contradict the arch way. but it doesn't have to be a literal visualisation of our goals and meaning of the word 'arch' in my opinion.
why not use a taco? ;]

I would rather not have a mascot. The arch logo is pretty bad ass IMO.

How about one of these guys... cartoonified?

why not get the benefit of it? It liberates you from convention. "

there is the good old archlinux-tan: http://www.jkhp.it/OS-tan/desktops.htm

Just my thoughts/opinions:
Pacman: Arch is much more than pacman, plus pacman is simple and a bit childish.
Anything penguin-based: an overweight, lethargic penguin as a mascot for a kernel is bad enough imo, let's not ++ the wobbling army of penguin mascots (Linus can satisfy his fetish without another one)
Skeletor: licensing issues, plus it's already a symbol for the (current?) "overlord"... additionally, taking popular cartoon characters from a series that was created as a way to market a toy line clashes ideologically with an open-source project (but that 's just a tangential opinion).
I forgot where it is, but the arched cat logo in another thread was very nice and not cartoonish. The overwhelming number of "cute" logos are enough. Arch isn't cute... it's sleek, elegant, and serious. I'd like a logo that makes people say "that looks pretty cool", not " awwwwww, hehe".
Anyway, that's just one voice among the crowd.

True...but you can consider it like an other world. Sort of a parallel universe.
I liked to see how was the world before the federation.
Sorry for the OT.
I agree with Xyne.
