@yellowfox, as i posted some pages before zen kernel segfaults the wlan module unrecoverable when using fn+F2 on my eee.
check dmesg for any messsages at the end.
I get the same "Operation.." msg.
I doubt i'm the only since the hardware should be the same.

@adamc83 what wlan client are you using ? You might have more then one profile which your card tries to connect to. For instance in /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf if you're using it.

Other thing might be the APs rerequesting authorization which might drop connection.

Third thing and pretty plausible if your are using PSK is a DeAuth attack from someone trying to hack the net , he will try to disconnect (a)client(s) remotely to get their handshake. Just what comes to my mind

Maybe this is because of failure pciehp module. Do you have apropriate entry in /etc/modprobe.conf (see wiki), if yes, try inserting pciehp before starting wifi.

I'm using network-manager... the school connection I have problems with is actually unencrypted (you login via webpage after connecting to the network), so it shouldn't be an authorization or encryption related problem. I guess I should clarify that what I mean by dropped connection is not that network-manager actually reports that the wireless connection disconnected (sorry, this was confusing), just that all of a sudden the connections on my computer (to IM services, etc) will be lost, and webpages will attempt to load indefinitely until the problem is resolved (usually several minutes). I dont notice people around me having similar problems, so I think the problem is on my end not the AP or network past that.

I may just drop the $20 to pick up an intel card, they seem to be better supported in linux anyways.

Yes this is the common problem with this ralink. I have workaround that by manualy seting essid after connection (iwconfig ra0 essid xxxx)

Im waiting for my intel card, I will report when it comes.

My intel wireless card just arrived, so I will do some test and report.

EDIT:

So it works fine as it should. It needs only the firmware

 pacman -S iwlwifi-3945-ucode

In comparison with ralink:

+ it works out of the box (even on stock kernel) and isnt buggy
+ lower consumption, didnt measure but it seems like it is saves more power (and also there is a lot of config in /sys to tweak)

- in the default configuration have weaker signal, but nothing tragic (let say 5-10% less)

For those who need better signal and higher sensitivity there are a lot of atheros around.

I have purchuated that on ebay for ~$20 ( 340 CZK ) including postage to CZ

New git kernel is released.

Release info:

* Updated to 2.6.27-rc7-zen3
* support for 1G lowmem, in package named zen-eee901-1G-git (for those having more than 1G ram use normal zen git)
* support for iwl3945

dmesg shows some debuging info, but dont get confused, everything works fine on my machine.

The zen-eee kernel is the zen kernel based on the latest stable release, 2.6.26; the zen-ee-git kernel is based on the latest release candidate kernel under development, 2.6.27. Theoretically, the zen-eee kernel is promised to be more stable than the zen-eee-git kernel, but doesn't contain any cutting-edge bug fixes or feature updates.

I follow wiki tips but dmesg show after wifi on by fn+f2

im having difficulties to get the elantech driver working. When i start X i can't move the mouse with touchpad.

inf: I dont know if there should be 2 syapics, try to comment or delete one of them. mainly in the server section.

2 I have also the same valuse in glxgears. Does it behaves like this only on zen??

The low glxgears values are caused by the intel driver from the testing repository (compare with http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=55661). Using the one from extra gives >1000 fps, but it still feels laggy.

Are using the xf86-input-synaptics driver or just the synaptics one (this should be the right one if you are not using the testing repository)?
