Integrating LTSP with Arch Linux

Dear Friends,
I am a new user of Arch Linux from India. Before I have experimented with many major & minor Linux Distros but the simplicity and speed of Arch really attracted me. Now Arch had a prominent place among the linux Distros in my PCs.
I wonder there is no LTSP packages availabe for Arch. Since I am concentrating on School projects (System Admn) thin client implementation is important to me. Can any one give suggetions/advice in the subject?. Where I can find LTSP packages for Arch?
Thanks in advance to every one intrested.

The LTSP installation utility files are in the AUR. Here's the link.

Thanks . But it means LTSP-4.2 which is nearly outdated. The current recommended version is 5.0. I have already implemented it in Ubuntu and OpenSuSE 11.0 with the help of Distro based packages (ltsp-server & client packages in Ubuntu and KIWI LTSp in SuSe). The ltsp 5.0 has numerous advantages than 4.2. It uses nbd , ldm and sshd instead of unsafe portmap, nfs and xdmcp combination. It offers encrypted connection in network. I want to shift a part of my machines from Ubuntu to Arch. Actually an installation package is only needed that grabs all the rest from LTSP website. In Ubuntu after installing a couple of small packages  we can draw rest of the software by issuing simple commands. That is too easy and performance is very impressive. Local device and sound  are very easy to configure.(In fact nothing to configure with LTSP5.0!)
Additional information of integrating LTSP with Distros can be found in following link:
http://wiki.ltsp.org/twiki/bin/view/Ltsp/Ltsp5
I think an effort in this way is sensible and will be a boon for peoples like me. I humbly invite the attention of arch programmers in this matter.(To develop arch packages of LTSP 5.0)
Thin client technology is very helpful for schools of countries like India where resources  is in short. Thanks again for suggestions.

Re: Integrating LTSP with Arch Linux

well you can easily do a package with the newest version. Just fiddle with the pkgbuild file

Re: Integrating LTSP with Arch Linux

If the package is outdated, you need to flag it as outdated so the package maintainer knows and can update it.

If you can't wait for him/her to do that, then you can build the package yourself until the version is AUR is updated:

Re: Integrating LTSP with Arch Linux

I would really like to see LTSP5 integration in Arch as well. I wish I had the skills to do it myself.  It looks like LTSP related AUR package isn't actually a full LTSP server, just some utilities for management.

I will now spend the rest of my afternoon building a LTSP package, hang on tight smile
It might take me some time though.

Hi,

has anyone made a LTSP 5 package? Could you please share a link or place it in AUR?

Re: Integrating LTSP with Arch Linux

I did spend some time doing it. It's not too easy, though and I'm too busy with other stuff. The LTSP is complex and it will take a couple of days to understand its internals. Maybe some other user wants to have a try at creating a proper LTSP package.

Okay, thanks for your try. I'm unfortunately not skilled enough in package building to do it so I'll wait and see.
