I noticed that 1 finger tapping actually works but only from the right edge.
Tried kljohann's method with no success. So thank you chori and scrolling works much better than with elantech driver before.
You're welcome, and thanks to @Etuxia. I agree -- the scrolling is much better now.
Another tweak I added, and that @ChemBro also discovered: change Option "AccelMethod" to "XAA": fixes the blacked-out icons in the system tray when running KDE 4.1.
I'll update the wiki with my @Etuxia-based xorg.conf.

So I'm gonna recompile my vanilla-kernel now again and dump the elantech-driver...synaptics works nice so far for me now.
Just hope I'm getting acpi fixed on the vanilla kernel...

It bases on the eeepc_laptop or eeepc_acpi modules which are included in the vanilla kernel. Maybe this is a way to simplify the scripts and more importantly make them more compatible for all eeePC models. (eee.ko doesn't work on the 1000H)

Interesting. I took a look at this project a few months ago, it was still fairly green then. It's come a long way since August.
I downloaded the source code, and took a look at it. It uses an ACPI listener written in python, and then writes values to the controls in /proc/acpi/asus. It doesn't support (in fact, it conflicts with) the controls in /proc/eee. The FSB values are changed via /proc/acpi/asus/cpufv, which Robertek reminded was unacceptably slow for ACPI use back when we tested /proc/eee/fsb vs. /proc/acpi/asus/cpufv a few months ago.
I think this package is worth another look. If anyone decides to uninstall the eee module and acpi-eee901, and install this toolkit instead, I'd be interested in hearing your impressions. Voltage measurements and CPU speeds on the different FSB settings would be nice, too. It's Ubuntu-specific, some tweaking would need to be done to port it to ArchLinux, I think.
Edit: FWIW, there are these two caveats in the "Known issues":
# With the vanilla 2.6.27, bluetooth control is not available. This is a bug in the eeepc_laptop module.
# The WiFi state is not retained. This again is a problem with eeepc_laptop.

It seems like we solved one issue but didn't really solve the issue persay. I can now change my /proc/eee/fsb file as I want, but it actually doesn't do anything (I managed to get it down to 0 50 0 but it was around 45 50 0 that I started to get suspicious)
But /proc/acpi/asus/cpufv works like chori said, you only need to send 0, 1 or 2 to /proc/acpi/asus/cpufv for it to change (it actually saves quite alot of power to run with setting 2) but its slow like hell (takes like 5-15 secs to change state, sometimes even 20 secs) and its locked to 3 different states.
But it makes the cpuinfo file output the information as it is (with state 0 it outputs 1600 and with state 2 it outputs 800 as processor speed so state 1 probably output 1360 (85%)) Maybe we should just leave that Ive found a way to sortof manipulate my fsb for now?

Thanks for the mouse and keyboard config, you saved my day! However you said on the wiki your touchpad was not behaving perectly, I think that's because of the minimum speed settings, I have it configured like this and it works like a charm (for me at least):

I still have some problems with suspend to ram! My eee module doesn't get reloaded after a suspend and even if i modprobe it (or I comment out the lines that removes it form suspend2ram.sh) the ACPI controls don't work until a reboot! Am I the only one with this problem? I am running the latest zen-eee and acpi-eee901.

I was just about to forget... the script that changes resolution doesn't work anymore after the upgrate of xorg, but I didn't investigate much into it. Can you confirm this?

No at the moment I'm trying to fix the asus-acpi. There are some problems with the vanilla-kernel. I can't describe in total because some things are working but some are not. Like OSD runs without any problems totally fine but there's no /proc/acpi/asus . If I got it fixed I'll try eee-control.
But as I understand it, it just needs eee_laptop (which is in the vanilla kernel) and this eee_acpi which should be in asus-acpi I think. But it has some dependencies not in the repos and aur like python-gconf and pyconfig.

I'm running Arch's kernel "-ARCH", renamed to -eee, and with almost all drivers compiled in the kernel (please see http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=458717 for custom kernel compilation). I did not (yet) include any other patch then patch-2.6.27.7-1-ARCH.bz2
I would say 97% is working:
1) I don't have /proc/acpi/eee
2) Fn+F2 always report the same event, which is logic. I don't know why the acpi-eee901 is set for two different events...
Everything else works 100%

Okay I updated the kernel .config in the wiki and the acpi part. I replaced ACPI_ASUS with ASUS_LAPTOP which seems to be the newer and better one.
I also further explained the acpi-part because I have the feeling that /proc/acpi/[eee|asus|..] is depreceated. You will find the new control-files in: /sys/devices/platform/eeepc/ .
But there's still no usefull fan file.

it doesnt happen all the time and i havent spotted any patern to it but every so often it fails to come back up and dmesg shows

any ideas as to why its happening or even how to bring the wifi card back up without having to reboot

I can recall earlier in this thread that someone had problems with having wifi on before suspending and then it would fail after waking the computer up. I think robertek told the dude to add rt2860sta in the modules to be removed (rmmod rt2860sta) before suspend and then to reload it on wake up (modprobe rt2860sta).
Because I know that the recent kernel has problems with wifi being on when suspending/hibernating, I have another linux computer that to be able to hibernate or suspend2ram I first have to disconnect my wifi connection or it will not fully complete the hibernation/suspend. I didn't have to do that before so there is a chance that they've changed something regarding to suspending/hibernating.

I had problems with it. My solution looks like this:
PRE_SUSPEND_COMMAND="/etc/acpi/eee/wlan.sh poweroff"
