Just want to learn....

Ok I am a novice Linux and Arch user and want to study up on it.

can you guys direct me to some of the important wikis to get me started learning how everything works and what controls what in arch.

I have been around for a few months and have become an expert installer of arch, but as for the trouble shooting of the actual arch I am not good.

Four best resources: the Arch Wiki, [url=http://www.google.com]Google, the Arch channel on irc (irc.freenode.net/#archlinux), and your own mind. If you have specific problems, please feel free to ask! Overall we have a great community!

Re: Just want to learn....

The best thing to do is to learn about how to fix problems as they occur.  Then you have a vested interest in learning how to fix them.

Other than that, google, Arch wiki, google and google are probably your best references to finding information on any area you are particularly interested in.

Re: Just want to learn....

random ideas:
use [TESTING]
subscribe to arch-general & arch-dev-public & pacman-dev mailing lists
customize your fav packages (custom kernel, custom build of whatever app you like)
use dev versions of your fav. apps (svn, cvs, hg, git, whatever), you'll use new tools, you'll face breakages, you'll have to apply patches, you'll have to WTF MY CAT HAZ FIRE!
read (and fill and try to close) bug reports (those with a lot of comments)
read man pages of arch tools (pacman, pkgbuild, makepkg, etc...)

Re: Just want to learn....

The best way, as I have seen so far, is to fix broken things. Break them yourself if you need to, and then learn how to fix them. No, I'm not joking smile

Another good thing to do is to learn bash (or whatever shell you prefer) scripting.

Re: Just want to learn....

These have all been very helpful and I thank everyone of you.

I think I will go with this process.
1. learn as many bash commands as possible
2. install all the dev stuff I can and fix them to work.
3. if I am bored just break stuff
4. ask the forum for help.
5. I was kidding this is really number one. sign up to all the places that tell me what is new with arch so that when I update I am not wondering why the heck xorg doesn't work anymore.
