Considering that knetworkmanager isn't in the official repositories, the AUR package is terribly out of date and that the newest version of it only seems to cause problems, I'm looking for a good alternative. I'd prefer something graphical, but it's alright if it isn't as long as it's easy to use and I don't have to configure it for every wireless network.
If the app doesn't have a GUI interface, I'd like it to work something like this:
$ blablabla --show_available_networks
ESSID1 encryption_here something_else_here signal_strength_here
SOMENETWORK encryption_here something_else_here signal_strength_here
$ blablabla --connect SOMENETWORK --encryption something --password abc123lol
Is there something like this out there? Otherwise, what GUI apps do you recommend? I've tried wicd, but I couldn't get it to work properly, but I guess I could give it another try if noone has any better suggestions.

I really like wicd, it's worked for me where networkmanager didn't. That's what I would recommend.

+1 for wicd

I'm using Wicd right now, and it works just fine. I need to test it on campus and see if it works with the 802.1x network correctly...

Archassistant + Netcfg2. Light, fast, easy, and Qt-based.
Stop looking at my signature. It betrays your nature.

Okay, so trying to get archassistant+netcfg2 working. I stop networkmanager, then right click on archassistant>Network Profiles>Instant Connection Wizard, choose eth0, click next and then "connect now". It says it's connected, but I can't go online. What am I doing wrong? Any daemons needed?
