Hi everyone.
I recently bought a new Compaq CQ60-107EL.
The specs are these ones:
CPU: AMD Athlon X2 Dual Core 1.9Ghz, 1MB L2 cache
VGA: nVidia GeForce 8200M
RAM: 3GB
HD: SATA 160GB
I tried booting the archlinux core iso [burned on a CD-RW], but this is the message i receive:
:: Loading UDev events [DONE]
HARDWARE ERROR
CPU 0: Machine Check Exception: 4 Bank 4: b600000000070f0f
TSC 1b52c48441 ADDR 900000c2004001
This is not a software problem!
Run through mcelog --ascii to decode and contact your hardware vendor
Kernel panic - not syncing: Machine check
I tried the 2008.06 iso for 32 and 64bit architectures, and even the 2007.06 isos, but the results are mostly the same, kernel panic everytime.
Shouldn't I boot or install Archlinux on this laptop?
Thanks to everyone who'd like to support.

i had the same problem on my CQ50.
you can try 2 things really.
1st. try adding the acpi=off onto the boot line.
2nd. and this is the one that worked for me. Using the larch setup scripts i made my own live usb disk with the installer packages.
You could also try the latest beta live cd. it's todo with the kernel version that is being used by the install cd

Hi there, I have compaq CQ60-108AU. CPU: AMD Turion X2 64 2.2GHz 2GB ram "Nvidia GeForce 8200M G" and have the exact same problem.... could you please shine some more light on how exactly you got arch installed. have tried 32 and 64 isos and acpi=off noacpi (not sure if I added this acpi stuff to kernel line correctly) and am not sure what I should try next.
Thanks for taking the time to help......
