Hi, basically I have a computer with no working cd drive, no floppy, but a bootable network card. I've tried installing via FTP with UNetBootin but I whenever I specify the mirror, the installer tries to get the package lists but fails with the error, "Error fetching package lists from server". Can anyone help me out? Installing from an iso image on the hard drive would also be an option. Thanks.

you need a working network connection, try ifconfig to determine if you have a network support.

Can it not boot from USB?

I too am having the same problem, I can ping a site fine but get the error about fetching the package list.
Is this something I'm doing wrong, a bug??
Have been searching all day but can't find any explanation to this.

I finally fixed it:
1. When it asks for the mirror, scroll down to the end of the list and select <Custom>
2. Enter this: http://schlunix.com/archlinux/core/os/i686/ Press Enter
3. Leave the next field blank. Press Enter
4. Select bin and customize the packages. Include everything except for hwdetect. Somehow, it can't install hwdetect until after the installation.
5. Install as you normally would.
Hope this helps.

Hey Thank You!, After many hours of headbashing you solved my problem
Though you made a slight typo in the post its schlunix.org, not .com
Time to install!! Woo!
Edit: Grrr, new problem. When I click install packages it says there was an error downloading one or more of them.
I'm dying to try out Arch Linux, but I can't even get passed the install

Exactly. That's what I said. It throws that problem when it trys to download "hwdetect". Follow my instructions till step 3. Then, when you're asked to customize, select "bin" and tell it to select all the packages by default. Go through the list it gives you and unselect "hwdetect". Install the packages as you normally would.
Glad I could help.
