Disable touchpad while typing?

This is driving me crazy... keeps overwriting my text. AHH!
Any suggestions would be nice. heh.

Just bind any key to it.

Your touchpad needs to be configured to use the synaptics driver and SHM enable.

I just switched from wmii to awesome, and yeah, it's realy awesome.

I'm using gnome network manager from svn, I can upload my builds later if you want to

I've been using Awesome on my Eee 901 since I installed Arch on it...tiling WM's are so much better for small screens...I've got mine set up with only one panel and then conky gives me all my sysinfo. Not enough space on the screen to do more than that. Quite nice though...

I'm using the network manager from testing...seems to work just fine for me so I haven't switched around...is the svn build worth switching to?

I must say that awesome is even more awesome than wmii which I though was awesome.

I thinks it is the same as I have(0.7). And no, it's not worth to change. The maintainer for the svn PKGBUILD's has left his place and removed the packages.

Can only agree on the tiling WM sentiment. XMonad is bloody amazing on the Eeepc.

To not derail this topic into what WM is best for the Eeepc, I want to add that I'm currently using the stock kernel with acpi-eee and everything is working perfectly. The boot is a bit slower than with the zen kernel, but it's bearable.

OK, I was getting issues with zen2.6.28 and the lack of UXA in 2.6.27 is annoying me, so I want to move back to the stock kernel... only issue is that I can't seem to get the wireless driver working properly. I did get it running (rt2860-eee1000 or something similar from AUR), but networkmanager doesn't work at all, wicd connects mostly (but I have to run dhclient manually), but I get incredibly slow and lossy performance.
Anyone got any recommendations for getting the wireless and acpi working on stock? I need to keep the rfkill/bt toggle functionality, and most importantly, the cpu undervolting - I'll live with the older kernel otherwise.

I think it-s a good idea to take a look inte the 2.6.29-rc*, it may have support for some more of the Eee hardware.

Take a look at

It's a vanilla kernel 2.6.29-rc3 with the staging rt2860.

Hi,

I recently updated my kernel to vanilla Linux 2.6.28. Before that, with 2.6.27, I could toggle my wireless card with <Fn>+F2, but now this no longer works, apparently because the device /sys/devices/platform/eeepc/wlan has disappeared. Does anyone have an idea how to remedy that problem? Has anyone else witnessed that phenomenon?

Yep same here. They made some changes so now the toggling is handled internally instead of userland acpi event handling. It's to do with the 'rfkill' module if you want to google to find info.

If you check 'lsmod' you should see rfkill module loaded (I can't recall if it was with 2.6.27). My problem was even with this loaded the toggling didn't work. On another thread here toofishes said you have to load 'rfkill-input'. I'm not sure why it isn't loaded automatically along with rfkill but I put it in rc.conf and sure enough toggling works now.

Blind, your kernel config seems pretty good so far... /sys/devices/platform/eeepc and the wlan are working great.
One thing I lack, though, is power management - I don't see any mechanism to control the cpu voltage (/proc/eee/fsb,/proc/acpi/asus/cpufv,/dev/i2c-whatever - none are there), and I can't work out how to check the battery capacity (/proc/acpi/batt isn't there). I have eeepc_laptop, dev_i2c and dev_i810 loaded, and if I try to insert asus_laptop:

pox> sudo modprobe asus_laptop
FATAL: Error inserting asus_laptop (/lib/modules/2.6.29-rc3-eee901/kernel/drivers/platform/x86/asus-laptop.ko): No such device

Anyone got any tips?

Thanks, Wittfella. Loading rfkill-input did the trick. The /sys/devices/platform/eeepc/wlan device still isn't there, but apparently it's no longer needed? Anyway, toggling works fine.

Last but not least, I wonder whether anyone was able to connect to a WPA2 network using the rt2860 driver from AUR? I have the impression that plain old WEP networks are supported, but anything that needs wpa_supplicant doesn't seem to work. I get lots of error messages from the kernel and ultimately all attempts to associate with the acces point fail or time out:

I have the same problem as JazzplayerL9. Tried gregkh-05-staging-2.6.29-rc3-git2.patch, but a after a while
another error pops up that I dont know how to correct.

Can you please check on that ?

I have lost my ability to tap with the touchpad. I have put the fdi files from the wiki to the correct places, but I can't get a click by tapping the touchpad. Anyone else here have this problem? Scrolling works fine...

using 2.6.27-zen3eee

I'm thinking to try your kernel for a better eeepc support.

Do I need a special package to get the silver keys etc to working, I assume they don't work out-of-the-box with this kernel either?

EDIT: Maybe we should put something about this in the wiki?

They are working out of the box. You can use my (very basic, but functional) button-eee901 package in AUR. It uses dbus-python to control all the buttons.
We can add a small section to the wiki, sure You could write something, I will add a small section about button-eee later...

Blind, your kernel's working good except for one thing - acpi fails to start with an error about /proc/acpi/event not existing (and no, it doesn't exist). The only thing I've changed in your config is joystick and framebuffer support, so that wasn't it... any ideas? Am I missing something painfully obvious here?
