hello!
i think about switching from 32bit to 64bit. is it possible without any risks?
can i just "reinstall" my hole system (all my user related stuff, settings and so on are saved on an extra home partition)? after that can i still log in into my kde4?
is it worth to switch? will i notice some performance enhancement? (i am a java developer and i am heating-up my system very hard, eclipse + tomcat-server, just many java processes, you know )
thx iggy

ok, read about it in the wiki and it should be no problem.
but, now i want to know, if there is a repository for all the lib32-packages from aur?
i need it e.g. for wine. but i don't want to build them all

There is a search feature in the AUR. If you use it you will find the 126 different lib32 packages.

Read what they said again They know they're offered in the AUR - they want a binary repo.
@iggy: I don't think so. The archlinux.fr repo might have some. It's not a big deal - you don't need all the lib32s, and compiling them is usually very fast.

...nad compiling them is usually very fast.
Even more so with a 64-bit system

Actually, I'm guessing that the time it takes GCC to optimize for more instruction sets is more than the time saved by having a GCC optimized for those instruction sets and with 64-bit registers. So, it'll take longer.

I've always found it faster... Maybe it's just a perception thing...
