Hi,
I followed the instructions on the NetworkManager Wiki page, however when I boot into Gnome I do not see an option anywhere to access network manager. I added it to my DAEMONS list in rc.conf, not sure what is going on. How can I diagnose the problem? Thanks.

you probably want to autostart nm-applet.

How do I do that? Do I add that to DAEMONS?

The is probably an "auto-started applications" entry in your gnome menu. If not, a gnome user will have to point out how to do this. Add "nm-applet --sm-disable" to it.

It appears to already be there. So this means it must be failing, right? If it is not failing, where in Gnome would I find it?
Thanks for your help, by the way.

you should read our wiki about networkmanager. you need to start the daemon after hal and your username need to be in a special group
Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

You can run nm-applet in a terminal and read the errors too.

you will need to put the daemon in the correct order (as wonder said)
if you want to start the daemon just to test, run this in the terminal:
sudo /etc/rc.d/networkmanager start
then run:
nm-applet --sm-disable &

why is gnome-network-manager only version 6? why not 7?
Version 7 is much better and it can manage all kinds of network connections.

version 0.7 is in testing

networkmanager-0.7 i in [testing]. I think the who hal using policy/console-kit "issue" is holding up its progress to [extra].

Thanks guys. I overlooked the step where I had to add my username to the 'network' group. I did read the entire wiki article before posting this, though.
NetworkManager works now and I'm able to connect to my wireless network. Will NetworkManager always automatically connect to my wireless network of choice after each reboot? Also, how can I get applets to reload into Gnome without rebooting? After I added my username to the 'network' group I had to reboot to get the applet icon in the top right.
PS: Any estimate on when 0.7 will be available? No big deal, just curious about a rough estimate.

As you can see in menu System > Preferences > Sessions, the network applet is loaded by nm-applet --sm-disable.
Networkmananger remembers where you have been before, more info: http://projects.gnome.org/NetworkManager/

I'm having another issue with NetworkManager. While I can connect and use the internet, it seems to stop working randomly after a while. I'm not sure if this is during heavy traffic or not. When I do "pacman -Syu" and update a lot of things it drops in the middle of a download, or sometimes during browsing and loading web pages. NetworkManager still says my wifi connection is "connected", but I have to disconnect/reconnect to get it working again.
Any common solutions to this problem?

I switched from NetworkManager to Wicd and it works WORLDS better. No connection issues and I have a finer granularity of control over my connections.
Thanks for the help everybody!
