hi, i'm gonna set up a "Hotspot"-like network using coovachilli for guests
problem is, since the net is not encrypted, http transfers will be readable by anyone with a laptop and i dont want the guests to have to install some ssh software to establish a tunnel to squid
after 2 hours of searching almighty google, i didn't find a way to use squid in a manner like:
client ---HTTPS--> squid ---HTTP--> internet
does anybody know if/how this is possible?
(if it's as easy as to specify https_port in squid.conf, plz smack me with a giant taco)

Smack!
It is easy to configure the https listening port in squid but it will not accomplish what you want. It sounds like you may be asking for a an SSL VPN connection from your clients to your squid box. Take a look at OpenVPN. You might be able find a solution if you combine both apps on the same box.

tacos?
I recommend openvpn as well. You can do some neat stuff with it.
If you do go the route of a proxy (squid), then take a look at auto-configure with a proxy pac file.
That could make it easier on your end users too.
