[SOLVED]Xorg issues

I just re-installed Arch, because in the process of removing the Debian install last night, GParted screwed up with my drive numbers which started giving me different GRUB errors every time I tried to boot.

Good thing I had a backup for my home drive.

1)So after installation, I tried using the xorg.conf that I had backed up, but if I do this my openbox session starts up but I cannot use my mouse or my keyboard. This is probably because of hal messing it up. I checked if hal was installed and running and I have even added it to my DAEMONS array. I also have the xf86-input-evdev and xf86-input-synaptics installed. Still no love !

If i try to manually start hal in the terminal, it always FAILS.

2) Also I am currently using the vesa drivers and if I use a xorg.conf generated by nvidia-xconfig, I simply cannot get X to start. I get errors (I will post the errors after changing over to that xorg.conf file and pasting the relevant section from /var/log/Xorg.0.log) This is my current xorg(generated by hwd -xa)

Re: [SOLVED]Xorg issues

One thing that I would try is to let X do most to all of the work for you until you get back up. This is my entire xorg.conf file. As you can see, I'm only handling the monitor. Try to get rid of everything you can then build it back up. Of course I'm using evdev to manage the mouse and keyboard:

Some more info for issue 3 about the locale

Also I just cannot start hal. When I issue a

sudo /etc/rc.d/hal start

It says [BUSY] for a long time and then [FAIL]s

I didn't have this issue when I first installed it. Damn you HAL !!!

Re: [SOLVED]Xorg issues

I have these three lines in locale.gen uncommented:

en_US.UTF-8 UTF-8
en_US ISO-8859-1
en_US.ISO-8859-15 ISO-8859-15

Do that then run locale-gen as root.

Ok I have fixed the first two issues related to hal and using nvidia drivers. Will try out the locale thing now.

Re: [SOLVED]Xorg issues

Thanks skottish. All previously mentioned issues resolved. Now for a new one smile
I have installed a GTK theme from box-look.org and every time i start a GTK app I get these errors:

Is there any way to get rid of the errors without installing a bunch of Xfce theme icons/engines. Can I use a different engine for the theme?

Re: [SOLVED]Xorg issues

You're going to need some sort of xfce theme engine. I know that there's xfwm4-themes in extra, but I don't know if that's what you need. Maybe it's not too big dependency wise?

--EDIT--

I'm using a modified version of lyrae's Black White theme. The only set of theme engines that I have installed are in gtk-engines.

Yeah I guessed as much. Installing gtk-xfce-engine gets rid of the errors. Also not much in dependencies.

The only problem is that it loads up a bunch of themes (that come default with XFCE) -- themes that I don't like and am never gonna use. Aah well !!

Can you provide a link for the Lyrae themes that you mention. A google search did give me a couple of links for lyrae themes on customize.org, but I am not sure if its the same that you are talking about.

Re: [SOLVED]Xorg issues

Sure:

http://customize.org/gtk/themes/54585

I'm also using a modified version of lyrae's Dyne for my openbox theme. If you want to see how boring I am, take a look at the screen shot posting rules thread. I'm more boring now than I was then.
