Xlib: extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0".

I and some other users have been getting the following warning

Xlib: extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0".

A quick google search indicates it has something to do with one of the X packages not being in sync with xlib, however I am not sure which package this is. I had a hard time following the posts, http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/x … 39131.html

I realize this not a big deal, but it would be nice to fix, if it is a simple version bump big_smile

As the bug report (and googling the warning) tells us, it's harmless. I'm sure plenty of topics like these will be popping up (despite the functional forum search function and the descriptive title of this topic).

*facepalm*

I realized it was a non-issue, just a tad bit annoying seeing it every time I run a GUI app for the console. Actually because it was such a non-issue I didn't figure that someone would have posted a bug a report.

I feel stupid for not checking the bug tracker tongue

[whine]It IS quite annoying.

It slows down the start of the applications as well, since 15 lines of the warning has to be printed.[/whine]

Re: Xlib: extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0".

ok, so annoying as it is, is there a way to keep it out of the logs? I like to  have .xsession-errors (with a tail -f) on either a conky box or a terminal window at all times, and i'm missing almost all other errors because this one repeats so much..
maybe a tail -f .xsession | somecommand to cut off the line ?

Re: Xlib: extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0".

tail -f .xsession | grep -v "Generic Event Extension"

should do it.

no it is not the same issue. You should update lib32-libxcb to 1.1.93-1 and wine will work again.

I've uploaded it yesterday to the community repo so if it is not there yet for you you'll have to wait for your mirror to sync

Re: Xlib: extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0".

Posting here since i made the newbie mistake of posting before searching for a collection thread

Yesterday i reinstalled my system from the beginning up and have one problem with the program 'xrandr' which i use to get display on my second monitor.

xrandr --output VGA --right-of LVDS
Xlib:  extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0".

I get the same fault whenever running any other applications requiring X, but then the applications actually perform.. in this case nothing happens at all.

So basically it breaks xrandr , meaning i get no output at all, anyone happen to have a solution?

Please people. This is a warning, not an error. I've never seen a warning result in broken functionality. So stop trying to blame everything on that annoying message or this thread gets a lock.

My crystal bowl works too well nowadays...

Re: Xlib: extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0".

Hi, Folks!

I'm a professional video editor using GNU/Linux for the last 4 years to work, most with debian. I worked whole last month with CINELERRA in Arch and it was great (and it was my first time with a quadcore...).

Back home, I tried to install myself (with all the guides and some friends helps, thanks!) and it is my second arch install in the second "kind of" old computers* and i got the same problem:

Xlib: extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0"

It doesn't look affects to much other programs but CINELERRA does't work. The only thing it says in terminal is this same error. I'm not sure it's related but..

I've been looking if it could be something I forgot during install process but no sure answer. I'm really stucked and using UBUNTU to work meanwhile (i'm already late). I'd love to back to the kiss thing, in this old computers, it's vital.

Thanks for any tips!
Angel

@B I think you need lock this thread and remove the post of those who think this error is causing them problems....
And maybe even given angell a formal warning for not READING!

Gentlemen, if Xorg devs say themselves this messages is harmless, then please, look a bit further before pointing to it as the obvious culprit. I completely understand you link both events together, but this is a link in time only and not a causal one smile.

Closing.
