I use the Archlinux 2008.8 cd to reinstall system.
My harddisk have two partition: "/" and "/home".
First, I format the "/" partition, and keep the "/home" partition.
Second, when the installer ask me choose the mount point of "/home",
if I choose original "/home", my files and data will destroy!
why?
Is that a bug of installer?
And the newest edtion of Archlinux has the problem, too?

You have to remember not to select to format /home partition.

Yes, but it also asks you if you want to format it.

oh, I understand.
thank you very much.
I think Archlinux should improve the installer.
It easy to destory data that if you do not know!

I actually agree that the installer could be clearer here. It wouldn't hurt anyway.

It's easy to destroy data in *any* installation. That's what backups are for

feel free to submit patches for things you don't like.
Also note that we will be phasing out archlinux-installer in favor of AIF. You can play with aif on the 2009.02 images

Classical PEBKAC. You are the one who should read better, or think, before hitting Enter. Computers don't make mistakes; they do what humans tell them to. Last time I checked, mounting was still not the same as formatting.

All parts of computers are made by humans, therefore they make plenty of mistakes.
There are bugs in software, firmware and even in hardware. One should always keep that in mind and keep backups, spare parts for critical systems etc.
