Whats up with the "arts" package?

http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/All … ing_system

but

pacman -S arts

only gives:

arts package not found, searching for group...
error: 'arts': not found in sync db

I'm running 64 bit arch, by the way.

Re: Whats up with the "arts" package?

ARTS is part of KDE 3.5, so it'll only be available if your using the old kdemod legacy repo. You probably want to look at something like Pulseaudio, instead. http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/PulseAudio

If you really want ARTS and the old KDE, you can load kdemod3 from here. http://kdemod.ath.cx/download-kdemod3.html

Re: Whats up with the "arts" package?

Well, thanks for the information. I guess its time for me to look into pulseaudio then... hope it fills my needs.

One thing i always liked to use arts for is when i needed an application to run at a much lower volume then everything else, i would just start it via artsdsp and adjust the volume of the arts server... is this possible with PulseAudio? Or is there a different solution for this kind of thing?

Re: Whats up with the "arts" package?

Just load pavucontrol. It's a global and per-app volume control. It's also handy to use pasuspender when you have an app that doesn't recognize pulse. Running 'pasuspender application-name' will suspend all of the running sound services and hand full control of the card over to the new app. I don't have to use it often, but it's handy when I do.
