Spell Checking Doesn't Work

For a while now in GTK apps, I've been having issues with spell checking.  In openoffice, all words are treated as being spelled correctly, while in pidgin, all words are treated as being spelled incorrectly.  How do I fix this problem?

have you installed the appropriate dictionaries for the said program?

I think pidgin uses aspell. you will also need to install the language dictionaries like aspell-en or any other that you want.

for openoffice you need to install the appropriate dictionary extension:

you need to install a dictionary
pacman -S aspell-en
