Modules optimization

Hello in rc.conf in MODULES=(....) i have many modules for example for sound about 8, how can I check which I realy need? How can I turn of my ethernet card if i don't use it and don't want to load modlues at startup for it.

since the latest kernel upgrades, the MODULES array has become more or less redundant. Many users who used the 2009.02 ISO had their MODULES array empty. So I am assuming you can remove all of them and the kernel will take care of loading the appropriate modules.


CAVEAT : I tried removing all my modules and there were a few things that didn't work, especially because I need to disable the iTCO_wdt module for udev to work correctly. So I just saved myself the hassle of individually finding out what works and what doesn't, I just put back my older MODULES array. YMMV. If you are gonna try something like that, make a backup of your rc.conf first. You have been warned.
