Hi there,
today I've installed Archlinux on my PC and I wanted to try out the new Xfce, wich look really nice on the screenshots of the Xfce website.
I followed the wiki article about ALSA and I can play sounds in the console but not in Xfce. When I want to open xfce4-mixer, I get the message:
GStreamer was unable to detect any sound devices. Some sound system specific GStreamer packages may be missing. It may also be a permissions problem.
Then I've checked the gstreamer plugin, if it's installed or not. But it was installed and now I'm confused. Do I need a soundserver like ESD or PulseAudio to get the Audio running in Xfce?
And... Yes, I add the user to the audio group.

Squall90,
For me was just: pacman -S gstreamer0.10-plugins. Maybe you don't have the essential plugin of the group gstreamer.

Okay, since I've installed all gstreamer-plugin packages, the sound almost work! Only audacious won't work and I don't why.
Now I'm using XMMS and it works great. What could the problem be?
Wenn I want to play a mp3, ogg file or a radio stream, I get the message:
No output plugin selected.
You have not selected an output plugin.
And when I try to change it in preferences -> audio; I can't change the "Current output plugin". It's just grey~
Thanks
