I have this strange problem:
I need to connect to a vpn using pptp, everything is set up perfectly - /etc/ppp/chap-secrets, /etc/ppp/peers/whatever /etc/ppp/options.
And when I connect (using pon whatever) - it works fine.
Then I ssh to where I need to ssh and it works fine too, but when I "ls -l" I get two-three rows of output and then - the connection freezes - I tried waiting for 30 minutes - nothing.
I have the same setup - same config files, same options - same everything under gentoo - and there I can ssh, ls -l, dmesg whatever and it works fine.
This is driving me crazy. What could be the problem?
I tried the same setup under Ubuntu 8.10 - same problem there - "ls -l" - few rows of output and the connection freezes...
I'm currently ssh-ing to my gentoo machine every time I need to use that VPN, but that's no solution.
Any suggestions welcome.

Solved.
It seems the problem was in the router (some stupid belkin wireless crap), and the gentoo worked because it IS a router, something to do with MTU, icmp pings and stuff.
http://pptpclient.sourceforge.net/howto … ons_freeze more here
the quick fix (at least for me) is - ifconfig ppp0 mtu 1400 (or lower) after the connection is established.
