[SOLVED] DVD and USB drives won't automatically mount

I've searched through the forum and Google and found articles but they don't seem to exactly apply. I apologize ahead of time if this has been covered.

If I log in as root, all my drives are mounted automatically - such as my DVD and USB drives. When I log in as a standard user, none of them are mounted. I have to do it manually, which works, but I'd prefer not to have to do this each time I reboot.

What do I modify for this?  is my standard user not in the proper goup?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: [SOLVED] DVD and USB drives won't automatically mount

yes this has been covered ..many times

The things you want to search on are HAL, PolicyKit. The wiki has a troubleshooting section on the HAL page which provides a solution.

you can check which groups you belong to by issuing

groups

in a terminal

Thanks Inxsible,

I will research the topics you indicated. I did read the Wiki on HAL but didn't find a solution there. I'll look again.

Thanks for responding.

Here's the link to the solution. Try it out. If it doesn't work, post back.

Re: [SOLVED] DVD and USB drives won't automatically mount

I found my problem. Thanks to Inxsible for repointing me to it. I had to reread the section on permissions and automounter. The one thing I was missing was the snippet about adding the 'match user' to my PolicyKit.conf file. That did the trick. I had everything else right - but that last piece was missing.

Thanks again for your help. I'm getting there...
