vl-hot, hal replacement?

Does anyone have any experiences with vl-hot?

Sounds interesting for laptop use. Per the website it looks like a limitation is not auto-mounting the cdrom drive. no big deal there. Disabling hal on my laptop though, I seem to lose hotplugging ability at least for my usb mouse. Just curious if anyone has messed with this..

I don't see how this is a replacement for hal. hal is more than just an automounter.

I guess thats what I'm wondering is what else you would lose by not using hal.. I stumbled upon the usb hotplug in X..but wondering what else there is.

Re: vl-hot, hal replacement?

hal is a dead project. Its replaced with devicekit - that decision has been taken a year ago already and the first steps to make hal obsolete have already been done.

Hopefully it will be sooner rather than later. HAL has been a bitch to almost everyone !
