Can somebody please fix this package in AUR: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=18409
It is in a bad need to be fixed, I don't have the time to look into it, but would appreciate anyone who would do that.
Thanks in advance,
Eduardo "kensai" Romero

guys,
I downloaded the code and looked into it. There is no documentation on installation at all.
EDIT :
I have updated the PKGBUILD. Added new .desktop and .png files. I checked out the package and it builds and runs fine. Please test it on your machines and let me know if you face any issues.

Did you guys have a chance to install and see if everything worked correctly? It works on my system. If you have a 64 bit machine, you might want to check it and let me know.

Tested under x86_64 and doesn't work. Running it in a terminal eats my whole RAM (I have 4GB) and then gets for the swap, but the app never opens.
I get no message in terminal to help find the problem.

So the app builds and installs fine ??
or do you get errors while building/installing? Post your errors if you have any.
I have a 32 bit machine and the app starts instantly. So I am not sure what the problem could be apart from the fact that the app doesn't support 64 bit architecture.
Like I mentioned before, there is not a lot of documentation...so if it doesn't work, I will just have to update the PKGBUILD and remove the support for x86_64. I will try to find out more at the website, before I do that though.

I can confirm, it brings down my system in a matter of seconds. Eats the ram and swap as well.
and you too have a 64 bit machine?
Do you get build errors?

I pretty certain that this software is in complete and total violation of the licenses of every piece of software that they use. There's no reference anywhere to getting the source code for FFmpeg, FAAC, or mp3lame. I'm also fairly sure that amrnb/wb is undistributable. You may want to check this out before doing any more work on a AUR package.

Alright !
So what's the Arch policy in such a scenario. Do we just not host such a package either in binary or PKGBUILD form? If so, I will orphan the package and an AUR moderator or TU can remove it. The package was already in AUR and I simply adopted it when kensai requested it to be fixed.

Depends... if it's just an issue of proprietary software or some such, hosting a PKGBUILD is ok (we're not redistributing the binary file itself), but if the program itself is actually in violation of license we should probably remove it. This doesn't prevent you from writing a functioning PKGBUILD and hosting it yourself somewhere, but we as a group won't support anything illegal.

Well, if its illegal, I have no intention of hosting it anywhere either.

Yep 64 bit, didn't notice any build errors.

Just so everyone knows, it's confirmed that the this software is breaking the licenses of everything it distributes:
https://roundup.ffmpeg.org/roundup/ffmpeg/issue916
I'll volunteer to watch this so that when (if) the software goes into compliance, that the AUR side can be handled properly.
