zsh vs bash

Hey guys, what are the advantage and disadvantages to each, and which do you prefer?
Thanks

Re: zsh vs bash

I don't think their capabilities are much different any more when you turn on all the features that you want. I prefer zsh since it's easier to set up all those extra features with just a couple of lines vs writing a giant bashrc for bash. I particularly like zsh's great completion setup.

Re: zsh vs bash

the extensive completion scripting is the main reason i use zsh too, i also like it's fast/short variable and evaluation functions. i haven't really dug into bash4 though, so i don't know how big the differences between the two are today.

Re: zsh vs bash

Zsh is much more advanced (and complex) than bash. If you are happy with bash you dont need it.
The only feature that will make a difference to people who dont use the shell a lot is the command completion.

There shouldn't be any reason to learn more editor types than emacs or vi -- mg (1)

Thank you for that link... "Be water my friend" Bruce Lee philosophy and JKD are my eternal loves. I really enjoyed reading that link. smile

By the way, also the content of that page is interesting.

Just notice that this talk is from 2005. Zsh has Unicode support working fine now.
