[obsolete] Arch+gnome, recommended tools to access remote Webserver?

Hi!

Most of the thinks I'm doing, I'm doing them with gnome. Now that the Desktop is almost done, i wonder how I'm going to connect to my webserver in the future.

1) I need to change www files a lot which I used to do with graphical tools. Adding a server in nautilus, saving password in keychain and using gedit to do all the editing should do.
2) To update, execute tools etc. I simply connect "ssh root@host" inside a gnome-terminal at the moment... did not find a good way to get my connection automated here (I'm crazy enough to save my passwords almost anywhere, but not plaintext in a script on my desktop written poorly & by myself).

So... how does a good solution look?
Nautilus + Putty?
Something I never heard of?
What's "easy" enough if you have to do quick changes very often and don't want to leave your connection / applications open all the time?

thx!

edit: no gnome on my pc any more! I'm pretty sure, gconf is sneaking out at night crawling around in my room eating my socks... me like rodents more, me with xfce now wink
