Arch Linux Laptop Bags

Hey all,

Me again, that guy who sells random stuff on occasion.

I ran into the lady who does the Python merchandise (http://www.wearpython.com/catalog/) for sale here at Pycon and we got to talking about laptop bags. I think I can get a few made with the embroidered Arch Logo for reselling, so I thought I'd better query the community to see how much interest there might be from the community. I know I've had three or four requests for them in the past, so please, let me know:

- If you're interested
- how much you'd pay
- what kind of bag you'd be interested in

I need a new laptop bag myself anyway, so I figured I could get a few extras made and take a discount. And our logo is so damn cool! ;-)

Re: Arch Linux Laptop Bags

I'd be interested.  Prefer Black bag with lightblue logo....... would be cool.  Price, idk, you tell me big_smile
Personally, I'd rather pay more for a really nice bag, than buy a cheap one just to save a couple bucks.

Re: Arch Linux Laptop Bags

I could use a nice backpack for my laptop. But I am suspecting this is a US deal only...

Re: Arch Linux Laptop Bags

I would too get more out of it with a backpack, much more easier to bring with me everywhere. With a nice arch blueish logo, some cli strings, commands, on a black bg.
I would only buy it if it's price were around 50 euro, no more than that, but with good material and manufacturing quality.

Nice going. Keep us posted if you go through with it.

Re: Arch Linux Laptop Bags

I am interested. I've been wanting something to say Arch without me turning on my computer or me saying it myself, haha. A laptop bag would be a great way to do that. I am not sure how much a laptop bag cost though. Really though, I need a bag for my EeePC. Think any of those would be made? I don't think I'd cry too much about the price, it's nice to spoil yourself every once in awhile. ^_^

Re: Arch Linux Laptop Bags

Actually, the model of the bag is still undecided, so I appreciate the input. The one I saw at the conference was a very small lightweight one with no shoulder-strap. I personally prefer more of a lightweight briefcase style, something that has an extra pocket I can store my papers in, but not a whole bunch of gaping space. I probably won't be doing a backpack at this time, as they're pricier.

I will be shipping internationally... in fact, I don't live in the US myself, so I definitely have to get them out of that country. ;-)

The costs I'm looking at range from $50 to $80 USD right now, depending on style and quality.

BTW, you can also look at these Arch bags, they aren't laptop bags, but they can hold "stuff":

There are some other styles on the second link if you click the 'customize' button.

Yes, I would be interested. The only issue is that I carry a 17" laptop to work and back and I doubt you would find many others intersted in buying such a beast.

Re: Arch Linux Laptop Bags

I already have a fullsized laptop bag, but I would LOVE to get a portable laptop sleeve (I know it's technically not a bag) to carry my laptop to class in my backpack.

Re: Arch Linux Laptop Bags

I'd be interested if:
a) It wasn't white. White gets dirty too fast - dark grey or black
b) It was vertical. I like bags that fit a laptop vertically, instead of horizontally.

Re: Arch Linux Laptop Bags

I would love to buy one. But, for me, it is the price that will become the problem since i live in Norway. If it exceed 200NOK (about 25US) i have to pay 25% of what the product including shipping cost, and for the customs since they have chekced the package (its about 20US), to get it. Of course it is unrealistic that it will cost only 20US, so i will just say as little as possible (when it comes to the price). But better to pay slightly more for quality than be cheep and get some shit that wont last a year. Maybe some people would prefer the briefcase one so if you find a model where you can take the shoulderstrap on and off, so its up to the buyer if he want to have it or not. Personally i would like one with a shoulderstrap.

I would prefer it to be black since, as phrakture write, white gets dirty too fast.
I hope that it wont be one of those beasts of a bag with a million rooms to put stuff in. I would prefer one of the smaller ones with one extra room.

That's true... Finding a size everyone can live with will be hard indeed. I own myself a 13" laptop, and i look for a bag as well - but this is an unusual size as well, and i have got this small notebook for a reason, so i wouldn't just buy a 15" one smile ...

@Dusty: Would it even be possible to get one of those sleeves with an Arch logo? like this one:
belkin_notebook_sleeve_blauw.jpg

If its in my size i'd pay max. ~35$ for the sleeve, and ~60$ for a bag (if its a nice backpack)

EDIT: I'd prefer the colors to be black or dark-gray as well!

Simple black bag with an Arch logo? Yes. I'll pay whatever the average price is for a bag of similar style, plus shipping.

Re: Arch Linux Laptop Bags

i 2nd what phrakture said, and emphasize i'd pay good $ for a sturdy bag that will last, rather than a cheapo one for fewer $ but turns to dust before the year is up.

Re: Arch Linux Laptop Bags

Wow, so many requests and opinions! My original plan was to get 20 or so bags at a discount and then resell them. Now I'm thinking it might be better to just get about 5 or so of each type at full price, maybe get some preorders and get them all made at once. I'll try to accommodate as many requests as possible, although I can't find a 'vertical laptop bag' yet.
