Just ran pacman -Syu....Eleven packages in current and extra.
All packages downloaded but gcc-3.4.3-1 was corrupted. None were installed.
What procedure to eliminate the corrupted package? Don't know the dependencies.
Prediction...This year will be a very odd year!

Stanislav;
Attempted the procedure you specified but received syntax error in adding the pacman.conf statement verbatim in line43.
Perhaps I am missing the intent of your post? This is the first time I have attempted to use the IgnorePKG statement and may not understand its proper application.

Are you sure line43 relates to your IgnorePkg line? That sounds so far down that it may be amongst the [current] or [extras] sections. Open the file with KEdit, for example and it will count the lines for you.
Here is the relevant part of my pacman.conf as an example - I have included the lines before and after it to show where it is located:
NoUpgrade = etc/lilo.conf boot/grub/menu.lst
IgnorePkg = samba kernel26 kernel24
HoldPkg = pacman glibc

I am sure about the line because I assumed (bad) it was a current repository ignore request so I put it in that area.
I will attempt to place it within the area you illustrated and try again.

The upgrade now ignores the gcc as requested.
Thanks for the clarification!

Good, but you'll want to upgrade gcc at some point. Just delete the corrupted package from the cache (you don't need to worry about dependancies as it hasn't been installed). Then do pacman -S gcc , which will override the IgnorePkg setting and download a fresh copy of the package when it doesn't find it in the cache directory.

I performed the Ignore and was able to install the other ten pkgs, however, the system fails to interface to the internet referring to a KDE file not available, thus, I am unable to make a try at getting a good gcc download.
That is, if I try to do pacman in command line, it may respond but I doubt it. It seems the download may have required gcc as a dependency.
I don't have a clue otherwise.
My boot up now includes a background of .. arch linux .... and that is covered by the Kde gears after desktop is reached.
Every pacman download lately has been a stinker for me......
Woe is me!!
I am in knoppix with this post..............

I don't know if these are the symptoms described in the Current News on the Arch home page today (kde problems with no working kio_http). If so it should be easily fixed either by booting to console or chrooting from Knoppix.
Unlikely to be a dependancy issue as the other packages would not have been upgraded if they required the ignored gcc upgrade.

The error reported is that which you posted...
Are there instructions as to how to fix it somewhere?

you can download gcc under Knopppix :
ftp://ftp.archlinux.org/current/gcc-3.4.3-1.pkg.tar.gz
save it somewhere, boot into Arch & then run
pacmna -U gcc-3.4.3-1.pkg.tar.gz
from the directory you saved the package. that should do the trick.

Dauphin Stanislav;
Thanks much forn the support.
The heimdal maneuver produced the fix for the Kde problem...(Sounds like heimlich maneuver!).
I still have gcc to install. I tried several times using the clear cache command and redownloading the -Syu pkgs but always ended up with corrupt gcc.
This poses the question: if a file is corrupt how can pacman recognize it when clearing the cache?
I will now try to -U gcc-3.4.3-1.pkg.tar.gz...
