Mark, you said KDE base did build again - it's not up on the server, I see? (/me anxious to see a couple of weeks of work in SVN)

@superstoned: you're right, I paid attention to kdesupport and kdelibs and they started building a week ago so I just assumed kdebase was too. I'm just running a manual makepkg now to see where it fails.
It looks like the new provides=() line in qt-copy works better as I just installed qt-copy-4.5.0-2009040405 without any errors.

Is there a web page for the qwm window manager, i'm thinking of putting qt apps only on an P3, with arora. psi & stuff ...
If it ain't broke, broke it then fix it.
Offline
@Maki: you mean for some howto guides? It's based on http://qlwm.get.to/ but there is no joy there. Maybe try googling on qlwm. I've actually been using JWM for the last few weeks and it's very good. I'm undecided whether to try and keep hacking on qwm or just use JWM as, for me, qwm has a few serious annoyances. Nothing that would not be too hard to fix but my fledgling Qt skills are struggling to get off the ground. As it turns out I just ran qwm through qtcreator just before I read your message so if you have any particular questions then I'll either answer here or put up a bit of a page somewhere.
FWIW I'm trying to do the same thing as you on that P3 but also as an attempt at a complete (or near enough) distro of Qt-only apps. The main thing holding me back is a window manager I can actually live with and a Javascript shell interpreter.

@markc,
Sorry I didn't get back sooner. After removing apr-util, I could remove unixodbc, and then update kde-svn to the 20090403's and iodbc. Worked fine, except on a reboot I've lost all kde-svn icons (panel, menus, and desktop). On Gentoo kdesvn, there was a new kde icons package renaming scheme last week (think it was mainly oxygen, but maybe it was for all other icons too- not sure).
I had to uninstall the previous kde icons package before I could emerge the new renamed package. This was with KDE 4.2.68 (KDE 4.3 >= 20090327. Could my kde-svn Arch icon problem be related? Here's the output I got, which seemed normal.

One other thing- with your pre-compiled packages, is it recommended to periodically remove the .kde directory? I usually do that on Gentoo every week or two and reconfigure my custom look/feel etc. kde config settings to catch up on new features, etc.

@wrc1944: sorry about this mess. Try the current qt-copy, it should install a lot cleaner. A lot (maybe all?) of the oxygen icons have been moved into kdesupport so it's possible we have some packages in some half way state. There is now a manually updated kdebase in the binary repo so the next build will, or should, be built on top of a current kdebase rather than something a couple of weeks old.... yes, here's hoping tomorrows build makes more sense and maybe even has icons again.
The latest qt-snapshot is just under half size compared to the last one, 56Mb, with just demos and examples disabled. It also is a newer code based on the 4.6 Git branch and now needs to be compiled "out of tree" in a build dir (that is how I know it's very recent code). Oops, I should try it out before I say it's any good.
eth-os-gui/juffed is quite a nice little Qt-only editor, fwiw. And while we're off-topic, http://v8.googlecode.com/svn/data/bench … 3/run.html is interesting, Opera 10 scores about 132 and arora is over 1200. More info here http://labs.trolltech.com/blogs/2009/04 … qt-script/ ... wow, I expected FF 3.0.8 to be as fast or faster than arora but FF only got 142, just a little faster than Opera10. Yep, arora just got 1150 that time. Anyone got access to Chrome on windows care to try that link out and report the result?
Heh, firefox-nightly only got 130... that means arora is nearly 10 times faster than "the others".

@markc
Thanks for the quick reply. No need to apologize for the mess- I'm surely not complaining, and it's really not bad at all. Where else could we get precompiled kde-svn packages- it's very much appreciated, and I hope posting on the ocassional problem I might run into helps a bit in sorting stuff out.
I'll give qt-copy and/or qt-snapshot a try, and reinstall kde-svn-all later today or tomorrow, and report back. Other than the missing icons, it's running pretty well so far.
EDIT: OK- couldn't justify waiting to myself (as I don't have to compile thanks to your great packages ) so I did another kde-svn-all with your qt-copy, and icons are now back. I guess my only problem was trying to use the Arch qt-4.5. Everything seems normal so far, but I haven't had time to really try much.
BTW, at the google browser test, I get:
Arora- 432
FF-3.0.8 Grand Paradiso- 146
Konqueror (4.2.68 svn)- 134
I expected more out of konqueror.

An associate with a dual intel 2.13ghtz cpu and 4gb ram running vista got 2115 with Chrome, 189 with FF and 70 with IE8 plus a popup saying it was freezing up.
I just now got, after a reboot on a amd 5200+ with 2gb ram, konqueror 118, arora 1240 and FF 3.0.8 got 140.
I have also been using, and liking, Opera 10 for the past few weeks so I tested it with qt-snapshot and qt-copy. It is unusable with qt-snapshot with so much garbage and corruption on the screen it's hard to see what's going on but all other Qt and KDE apps look fine under qt-snapshot. Reinstall qt-copy and Opera looks fine again, so those qt-copy patches are important to Opera. Not being an open source project means it can't be recompiled etc so it has reminded why I didn't want to rely on the likes of Opera (and skype) in the first place even though I like the interface once I gave it a shot.
extragear-multimedia compiled with amarok but mine comes up with a "Error message: Cannot load library /usr/lib/kde4/libamarok_collection-sqlcollection.so: (libmysqlclient.so.15: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory)" so I'm not sure what that is about. At least amarok compiled for the first time in a month.
Update: ah, an ldd /usr/lib/kde4/libamarok_collection-sqlcollection.so reveals it can't load libmysqlclient.so.15 even though I have libmysqlclient installed. As it turns out, the latest libmysqlclient 5.1.33 has a libmysqlclient.so.16 so there is hope yet that amarok will work. Those of you NOT running [testing], and still have a libmysqlclient 5.1.32, may have a working amarok. But the next compile against mysql from testing will stuff that up. Doh, we're between a rock and a hard place.
At least I seem to have finally resolved some issues to get most of kde-svn to compile, and, being able to swap between extra/qt, qt-copy, qt-snapshot is at least possible with just some forced overwriting of some trivial files.

Now wait until Amarok is back. Darn, this is indeed a painful time ;-)

Hmmm. I'm wondering why my FF and konqueror scores are similar, but my Arora score is drastically less. I'm running an AMD X2 5050e, which has virtually the same cpu specs as the amd 5200+, with 8GB ram.
Do these scores have anything to do with your ISP internet bandwidth (I only have the "budget value" cable service package of only 200kb/sec up/down), or are the scores totally independent of whatever internet connection you have?

I doubt bandwith plays any role. Anyway, Arora gets between 600 and 800, firefox around 100 and konqi 85... Points for Arora.

@wrc1944: I think this is because kdesupport provides "taglib" and not "taglib>=1.5" (pacman -Si kdesupport). This is probably due to my misunderstanding on exactly how provides=() works so I experiment a bit and don't always get it right. Suggestions always welcome.
@Maki: whew, glad to hear it's working for someone :-)
I tried messing around with extragear-multimedia again (for amarok) but I can't get qtscriptgenerator to build. I got so frustrated I didn't even do a build last night.

Hi, I built qtscriptgenerator and amarok2-svn successfully today with Packagebuilds from here: http://dev.archlinux.org/~tpowa/amarok/, using mysql from [testing] and your qt-copy. You will need apr-util.
Just for fun, i uploaded the packages to rapidshare: http://rapidshare.com/files/218678129/amarok.tar.gz
Archive contains: amarok2-svn-950568-1-i686.pkg.tar.gz, libmtp-0.3.6-1-i686.pkg.tar.gz, qtscriptgenerator-0.1.0-1-i686.pkg.tar.gz, taglib-extras-0.1.942788-1-i686.pkg.tar.gz.
