Re: Openbox panel suggestion

i switched to xfce4-panel.
really nice with all the plugins. and very low-weight.
i think it's lighter than bmpanel+volwheel+glipper-old and other tools i used. and makes a more "rounder" impression.

A very simple and light panel is "PyPanel"

one more vote for tint2 (new versions have tray icons support).

Re: Openbox panel suggestion

I'm satisfied with bmpanel, but this thread interests me. Maybe it will give me a hint for an alternative.

Question for those who don't use bmpanel --> Why not use bmpanel???

Re: Openbox panel suggestion

I'm up for tint2.

I gave bmpanel a try for a while, but I didn't find it as customizable as tint2.

as i said i used bmpanel, but i needed applets like volwheel, clipboard and a pager, etc. with xfce4-panel i have all in one application.
and the memory footprint is the same or imo lower (eg, no perl or other deps).

Ok, but my bmpanel (with transpy theme) has a pager (showing the names of my virtual desktops), a systray (showing wicd-client, parcellite and pidgin) and originally a clock (I disabled it).

Re: Openbox panel suggestion

I am using wbar for quick launching apps and lxpanel for other things - it is light and does everything I need.

Tint2 is king. Excellently customizable.

Re: Openbox panel suggestion

This topic convinced me to try out tint2.  You guys are right, it is awesome.  It's officially replacing pypanel as my default.

Re: Openbox panel suggestion

Did you use the one from the repos or the one from the AUR? I suggest the AUR because it has a (slightly malfunctioning) system tray.

Re: Openbox panel suggestion

Just installed and setup tint2 which is nice, and has transparency! Its much lighter and a little quicker than xfce4-panel, but does not have the same features like the menus and icons to open apps. But if you dont need that I would say tint2 is really nice and the new vers has a systray.

Re: Openbox panel suggestion

How about NO panel at all.

It was strange to me initially as well, but its been quite a while since I have had a panel in my OB setup or any other for that matter. Alt + Tab and Super+ Tab FTW !!

Hey Inxsible, I can do without the icons and menu, but I dont know if I can do without a show desktop. For me to minimize all windows is pretty cool and important hmm

Guess I been using that too often in windows land...lol

But that's as simple as Ctrl + D in Openbox. minimizes all windows and when you hit it again, it pulls up the window that you were in just before you hit it the first time.

Re: Openbox panel suggestion

pypanel and tint2 if you want to configure them by text, xfce4-panel if you want good applet support and to do everything with a gui
