I tried on a virtual machine where I have installed arch and where I test some things before doing it in my laptop and I wasn't able to correctly install grub. It failed when
grub-setup /dev/sda
also with
grub-install /dev/sda
Both gave me the error that /boo/grub/core.img was not ok or something similar. I have tried again, maybe tomorrow and I will tell you if any progress.

I hit this problem too. Intel Macbooks require GPT partitioning scheme and leave no space for grub2 to install itself. So you then have to create a bios system partition

I just installed Arch 2 or 3 days ago on a MBP 5,5. Just Arch Linux though, I wiped Mac OS X. rEFIT gave me nothing but trouble, so i Wiped all partitions including the EFI one and went back to legacy mode.
There's a guide in English right here.
I don't understand EFI either, so it would be good if you posted something once you get it working.

THIS IS A GREAT DAY:
after more than one year , i'm able to use GRUB2 as default boot manager in my macbook
now i can choose between MacOS X and ArchLinux
i've only a question: i have a /boot partition but GRUB2 is already "installed" in HFS+ mac os x partition
then, during archlinux's installation i must install grub ???
