I was wondering why current mozilla-firefox is twice as big as the official mozilla.org build?

are you sure? did you check on the size after uncompressing? other than that perhaps it is extra junk people wanted added on that adds to the size.

like i said check the UNCOMPRESSED size. other than that you will have email the package maintainer because only he will be able to give you reasons why.

it's possible the official installer downloads some stuff... compare only the binaries after decompression, as sarah said
