HP Mini 1000 WICD and eth0 and eth1 changing names

It may not be the changing of names, but for some reason wicd ONLY picks up wired to start the network not my wireless nic

TO get it to work i have to take down the eth by ifconfig eth0 or eth1 whichever it is at the time down so say its eth0 ifconfig eth0 down

then bring up wireless ifconfig eth1 up

Any suggestions would be appreciated

Thanks.

I ended up disabling the marvell module which is my ethernet module to no avial

However editing mkinitcpio.conf and adding wl as a module to be loaded first guaranteed it would be named eth0, letting me setup wicd to pick it up I think the problem was it switching it time confused wicd in preffernces.

Will update if it doesnt stay functional.

Put the modules in the rc.conf MODULES array in the required order. the mkinitcpio solution works, but it's unnecessary.

Re "disabling" marvell, the correct way to do this is to blacklist the module in the MODULES array.

okay so this solution did not work, and yes I know putting it in mk wasnt the standard way of doing it but ive tried both:

adding modules in certain order to ensure wireless card got same eth0 at bootup
and also in the module array disabling marvell ! which in fact does not seem to disable my ethernet card even though its marvell

anyways any suggestions would be appreciated

For some reason it worked finally in the modules array making wl first and marvell last

Thanks. The same issue is there  with dell mini 9 after few reboots. r8169 added first in the module array and works now.
